Default Crew To Sign Fenerbache Defender Claudio Maldonado?

That's what MLS Brasil is saying from what they have heard from Fenerbache's fan websites. Moldanado plays defensive midfield, which would make sense since we have been looking for someone to replace Moffat most of this year.

Translation:
Chilean Claudio Maldonado, known for playing in Brazil for clubs such as Santos and Cruizero could play defense for the current champion of the MLS, Columbus Crew. The player of 29 years can close business with the North American team soon. A fan-site of the Fenerbahçe club says that other clubs of Major League Soccer have interest in the player, but the Ohio club has stepped in the front to close the business with the Chilean.

I have a little more on Maldonado here, he's apparently the captain of the Chilean national team who are in first in South American qualifying:

He is 29 years old. Has played a ton in Brazil for top clubs. Kind of odd since I thought the Crew were looking for an attacker. But, it fulfills a hole all the same.

10 Championships in 3 different countries and a Bronze medal from the 2000 Olympics.

8 red cards in three years though.

if true, very odd. Is a sale of Marshall more likely than Rogers perhaps?

actually... where in the D does he play? I didn't see it specified.

Defensive mid or fullback.

My guess is Honest Bob tries to turn him into a center mid.

Courtesy of some Chileans and Fenerbahce fans, the scouting report on Maldonado seems to be that he has average speed and strength (relative to the Champs League), is a gifted short passer, outstanding tackler, man marker, communicator, and leader, who needs to work on his long passing game and doesn't really contribute much offensively.

And his nickname is Chester for some reason.

The Crew's new modus operandi is to sign anyone that looks like a pirate after the success of Gino Padula.

Guy plays defensive midfield, I was thinking it wouldn't make sense if he played on the backline. But, we haven't had anyone combine that great with Carroll since Moffat was gone, and who knows what is going on with Moffat.

Looks like the Crew are shopping Rogers to Europe. So, Ekpo would take Rogers spot. And, the Crew can use Rogers money for an attacking player.

I liked what I saw when Shelton came in for Jamaica last night.

From what I've seen of Shelton, he is all speed, no technical ability.
