I'm surprised you're surprised - people who know what's going on know this is just a training tournament for Scandinavian teams in warm weather in March. It's an excellent tournament by friendly standards, but it IS just a friendly tournament - a lot of people on these boards get carried away with the Algarve. If it were important, we wouldn't have sent a U-19 team there in 2001.
US taking Denmark to the woodshed with a half-hour gone, 3-0 on just four shots. Lilly, Wambach and Welsh, in that order, 6th, 17th and 29th minute. Denmark has to score one more goal than the US to make Tuesday's championship game, and that ain't happening. France-Finland and England-Mexico are underway now, Germany-China, Sweden-Norway and Portugal-Northern Ireland will commence at 11:15AM Eastern.
France 2, Finland 1 so far, so Pichon and co. look to be repeating their 3rd place game appearance Tuesday morn.
Today's results: Sweden - Norway 1-1 Germany - China 2-0 USA - Denmark 4-0 Finland - France 1-2 England - Mexico 5-0 Final standings: Group A: Germany 9 (8-1), Sweden 4 (4-3), Norway 4 (3-6), China 0 (1-6). Group B: USA 9 (8-0), France 6 (4-3), Denmark 3 (5-7), Finland 0 (2-9). Group C: England 9, Mexico 6. So I guess the final matches on tuesday will be: Final: Germany - USA For 3rd place: Sweden - France For 5th place: Norway - Denmark England and Mexico plays China and Finland for places 7-10.
Thanks for posting all of the results of today's matches. I just checked "fotball.no" and there is still no report posted yet about Norway's match against Sweden today. I'm also not having any luck accessing your Norwegian Women's Football Blog today either and have been getting the following message: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /~steinl/mt/mt on this server.
Norge-Sverige [R] A report of Norway's match vs. Sweden has just been posted at the "fotball.no" site: Congratulations to defender Maritha Kaufmann for scoring the equalizer in the 84th minute and keeping Norway's long unbeaten streak against Sweden alive. Interesting to see that Coach Berntsen didn't use any subs today and that the 16 year old, Isabell Herlovsen, started and played all 90 minutes for Norway.
Norway - Sweden Match Report [R] A brief match report of the Norway - Sweden match in Norwegian has just been posted at Aftenposten's fotball site: http://fotball.aftenposten.no/nyhetsarkiv/article.jhtml?articleID=75106
I was checking to see if VG had posted anything about today's match and came across the following article about Friday's match vs. Germany. http://www.vg.no/pub/vgart.hbs?artid=270064 Perhaps the next time Marit Fiane Christensen has a chance to play against Birgit Prinz she should seriously consider putting her hair in a ponytail or at the very least wearing a "bleedin" headband.

Match for place 11th and 12th Portugal vs. N. Ireland Match for place 9th and 10th Mexico vs. Finland Match for place 7th and 8th England vs. China Match for place 5th and 6th Denmark vs. Norway Match for place 3rd and 4th France vs. Sweden Championship USA vs. Germany These are all tasty matchups. Too bad they're not televised in North America. It looks like England is on the upswing. They've been beating up on the minnows, so we'll see how well that translates into their match with China. Denmark - Norway should be a good match. Both suffered similar big 4-0 losses, so neither can be too happy about the tournament to this point. Time for some redemption. Sweden - France is another interesting matchup. Sweden might be the favourite but France has more to prove. Germany and the USA have had their way with everyone so far. Things are about to change for one of them.
thanks, I found it, but it looks like only the final will be shown-- http://eurosport.com/home/pages/v4/l0/s10000/TvSchedule_lng0_spo10000_prs1_ven0.shtml
Vidoe of Algarve Final This is a very good idea RUUDVN. I'm guessing that several of our European friends who post here will probably get to watch the final and I'm sure that it is going to be a great match. Here's the deal I am willing to make with RUUDVN and others on these boards. A good friend of mine has a professional video studio at his house and can make excellent quality conversions of videos from PAL to NTSC. He owes me a few favors so I can offer to make the conversions at no charge if several of us can agree to cover the shipping and handling costs for someone in Europe who is willing to tape the match for us. Please let me know by e-mail if anyone wants to go in on this with me. Of course we also have to have at least one person who is willing to make us an SP copy of the match (conversions of SLP videos don't always turn out that well). Please don't send me PMs or use the e-mail address that was used when I registered my BigSoccer screen name. I've had problems receiving PMs and the e-mail address is an AOL account that got hacked and as a result I haven't been able to access e-mail sent to that address.
i can convert sp tape to dvd if you want to, for as many as you want, as i did in the past was great in quality.
