Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] EPL clubs interested in Cullen? Damnit. Fun but why? He has been that good? http://japanesefootballersaroundtheglobe.blogspot.com/2011/06/618-news-roundup.html#more
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20110718-00000324-soccerk-socc Cullen to wear No.10 jersey, the first to wear that number at VVV since Honda left.
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] true I'm glad that so far no players have been lured into playing for them yet. I don't mind players like Cullen going because they aren't playing anyways, but if a player like Haraguchi went there I would be quite depressed.
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] C'mon, there are many flops wearing the number 10, just take a look at Real Madrid and Chelsea
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] Sorry to see Cullen getting the battering here but it's hard to give him the benefit of the doubt. I want him to do well thou...
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] Honestly I don't mind at all as I think that (VVV signing big hopefuls from Japan) is not something we have to fear. It's not bad either if players stagnating in J2 find themselves a new perspective in Holland.
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] I disagree, I don't want to see the top Japanese youngsters anywhere near VVV. There is no reason to go to a club that is worse than almost every J-League team. The best youngsters do not need a so called "gateway" club anymore in order to get noticed by top European clubs. I don't want to see kids having to deal with 0-5 losses and stuff like that. They need to play for a club that cares about their development and not a club that is trying to avoid being hammered week-in and week-out.
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] Oh I see that was just misleading: I don't mind players like Cullen going to VVV. I don't fear that our talents will sign for VVV (meant that I don't see it happening, or I am not concerned that it will happen)
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] That I agree with I think that most players understand that VVV is probably the last possible option to go to Europe.
Re: Robert Cullen's Thread [R] Sure, VVV is not a great club. but if you can't shine at VVV then you don't deserve anything bigger anyway. As for the rest of the dutch clubs.. Well first of all, Asian football is not that popular in Holland. and even when we look for Asian players it's usually in Korea. (because of the success with Park and Hiddink) 50% of all our imports comes from Sweden. The rest from South America, Eastern Europe and Africa. But Japans recent rapid acceleration has been noticed by all clubs, so maybe in the future you might see more asian players in clubs like PSV, Twente, etc ..With the exception of Ajax, now that Cruijff is back, that's not going to happen. Cruijff wants Ajax to redevelop a style that's more like 'total football' in the future, and wants 80% of the next generation to come form it's own academy.

Haha. He havent even scored this season right? There is probably 20 japanese forwards better than him. No that I've anything against him.
Stoke and QPR interest, in my opinion and if it is true, is based on his background and not his playing ability. He has literally done nothing this season so far. Even Yoshida, who is a centerback, has scored more goals than he has. Trust me on this one. You do not want him playing for the Northern Ireland national team.
Sponichi wouldn't make this up as a "QPR/Stoke interested in Robert Cullen"-story isn't exactly a millionseller. It must have been more like this: -QPR/Stoke-Scouts attending the Ajax-game for VVV's Nigerian players. -Them realizing there is a guy called Robert Cullen (and to be fair, he must have had a good game against Ajax) -Sponichi-writer tells them who he is. ----> Story!
This is a pointless discussion. Cullen played extensively for the U20 and U23 national teams. I think he has something like 25 or 30 caps. Even ONE cap . . . . in fact, even one BENCH appearance for the U20 team . . . makes you ineligible to play for any other country. FIFA allows you to play for one country. Period. No exceptions. Do you know what happens to a team that calls up a player who has been capped before for another country? Do you know what happens to the player? If not, just Google "Marcio Emerson Passos" This is a ridiculous thing to even be talking about, anyway. Robert Cullen is no more Irish than Landon Donovan (probably less so, since Donovan can at least speak passable English). He is Japanese, regardless of what his name sounds like. So quit trying to convince yourself that he is Irish.
Haha it's so easy to make a shitty story nowadays. To be fair Cullen surprised us all when he saved VVV from relegation last season but this season he has not started so well has he? Still 0 goals.
