"'Friday Night Lights' Star Adrianne Palicki Lands the Lead in NBC's 'Wonder Woman' Reboot" (Thursday, 2/17/11) -G
Apparently this is to be slightly more serious than the first TV adaptation. I like Palicki but I'm not sure I see her as Diana... She lacks the regal quality I associate with the character.
That's a good question, I honestly can't think of an actress right away. I'll give it some thought and get back to you.
Well I haven't seen that much of FNL, so I'm not sure it's that... I know her mostly from the first season of "Supernatural".
That's just horrendous. Not only does the costume look like something you'd find at the bargain section around Halloween, could they have made her look any cheaper if they tried? It also confirms that Palicki has the complete wrong look for the part.
Yeah, I'll pass. I'm not sold on her as playing WW and that costume looks like something my wife would wear for Haloween.
maybe Minka Kelly also of Friday night lights, certainly more regal than Palicki Mila Kunis Amanda Seyfried
I think she's perfect for the role. Being an FNL fan, I know she can pull off the "tough chick" pretty well and she is a good actress, IMO. I do think the costume looks cheesy but at the same time, it doesn't look any better in the comics.
she has done alot of TV, brothers and sisters, South beach and couple other series I have never heard of, breaking in and october road
Seriously, the idea that TV is somehow less prestigious than film is so pre-2004. And yeah, "bad Halloween costume" was my reaction too, though the source material is so campy, there's no way to make it look half decent and still remain faithful to the original. You're either going to get something campy (in a bad way), piss off the fanboys by veering too far, or be stuck somewhere in the middle like what we have here. It's too bad - Adrienne Palicki is so naturally pretty, the heavily made up look doesn't work for her.
Perhaps we're taking the Wonder Woman costume too seriously? After all, this was the original: Of course it looks like something one would wear at halloween, it's a Wonder Woman costume. I don't know the actress, but I wasn't expecting Meryl Streep.
Are you talking about the comics or the original TV series? Because some of the more modern issues of the comics combined the character's old values with some very good tongue-in-cheek humor. I had assumed that was the tone they were going to go for in this modern adaptation, but based on the look of the series, full-on camp seems more likely. A shame if you ask me.
The TV series. The costume Caddman posted posted is fugly as mess. I actually think the 2011 update isn't bad - the military pants are a good choice. But you can't make chicken salad with chicken shit.
I was looking for this thread to be bumped when the first pictures of the costume came out a week or two ago. I'm even more nervous now that we're seeing action shots of the costume. The old and even this current costume don't work easily nowadays. I was hoping for a true update. I like Palicki, but they may need to pad.
LOL! I would be awesome. I grew up watching the Linda Carter series -- she was a huge role model for me. Her and Cher, and Charlie's Angels and Princess Leia. Anyway. I'm not a big fan of what we're seeing in the pics that have been released. Honestly, the costume looks cheap. Yes, it's going to be campy no matter what, but it doesn't have to look cheap. To paraphrase a commenter on Jezebel, apparently her superpower is keeping her boobs from popping out of that bustier.
The way they have Adrianne looking reminds me of the issue in the modern day comic series where Diana visits the set of a Wonder Woman movie and finds herself disgusted by what they've turned her fictionalized self into.
