It's time for the Crew to take on another old nemesis, this time it's the Chicago Fire. It's going to be fireworks night at Crew Stadium, so expect another decent-sized crowd. The Crew currently sits atop the East with 24 points, but Chicago is a mere 7 points back, in 9th place overall, looking to keep their playoff hopes in healthy shape. Both teams shut out their opponents this past weekend, and both teams will have Tuesday night USOC matches to contend with. The Crew's all time regular season record against Chicago is 10-17-13. At home, it's still only 5-8-6. Factoring in playoff and USOC matches, our all-time numbers against the Fire are 11-20-13, with the total home tally being 6-9-6.
I'm going to be in town for this one (!) and I wanted to pick up a bar scarf before the game at like around 5:30. Can someone help me out and tell me where exactly the tailgate for the Union is and how much money it will cost me (I'm not a member). Thanks! And I say we win this one 2-1. I can't wait to yell some bad words at McBride either.
The tailgate on the grass in the southwest corner of the VIP parking lot next to Black and Gold Avenue. Another way to describe the location: In front of the parking lot construction and facing the front gates of CCS, the tailgate is to your left, at the edge of fully paved parking lot by the big rock and small tree. If that dosent help, PM me and I will try to do better.
Considering that Chicago lost in shame to a lower division yellow and black team in the US Open Cup, Saturday will be like a flashback nightmare for them.
Friendly RBNY fan here... Going to be in Columbus for the holiday weekend visiting the girlfriend's family and making them all come to the game with me. Was wondering if there is a shop in the stadium where I can pick up a scarf or if they are only sold online or to the supporters groups. I try to buy one from every match I go to and would love to grab one. Thanks for the help and looking forward to the match.
Both. The shop has your standard Adidas MLS sanctioned scarf/scarves. The supporter's groups (at the tailgate) will have their own, better/more interesting "Mom & Pop" scarves. There are stands in either front corner that sell merch but the store itself seems to have a better selection. Having said that, the supporters tailgate has the best stuff--great scarves and some pretty sweet Union t-shirts. HSH is another supporter group that has their own generated merch as well but they pre-game at either their private club or at Ruby Tuesday's (a bar near campus). Welcome to Columbus and the Granddaddy of American soccer stadiums. You're going to have a fantastic time, guaranteed.
Why expend 'hate' on lessers? And I'm glad to see a minimum of McBride slagging on here... the only statement that needs be made is this:
So after the game i saw guille walking through the parking lot and i stopped and asked. Guille, What is best in life? and he said... [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAdzBaPDmJk"]YouTube- What is best in life?[/ame]
Sarcasm? Seems unlikely with the whole "draw" thing in effect. Still, any dig at the Fire is a good one. Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a team lose on PK's without scoring once. Amazing.
Anyone whose sphincter aint clinching after such an Epic Fire Fail against Charleston aint right in the mind. Just sayin'
okay, I just decided to take a look at who played how many minutes for the Crew and Fire in the Tuesday Open Cup games: Crew 90 minutes - Lenhart, Rogers, Carroll, Gaven, Iro, Brunner, Zayner, Francis, Gruenebaum 70 minutes - Duka 64 minutes - Ekpo 26 minutes - O'Rourke 20 minutes - Renteria Fire 120 minutes - Dimitrov, Bone, Pappa, Watson-Siriboe, Kinney, Krol, Umanzor, Johnson 90 minutes - Lowry 75 minutes - Nyarko 68 minutes - Conde 52 minutes - Pause 45 minutes - Banner 30 minutes - McBride Now compare that to Chicago's match last weekend against New England: The one name that really stands out under the 120 minutes list is Marco Pappa. We'll see if Chicago goes with Justin Mapp instead this weekend. Looks like most of the defense for both teams will be pretty well rested though. (Save for maybe Krol and perhaps Iro or Brunner, depending on if they start or not.)
