Yeah, I picked up a copy of "Grimm's Fairy Tales" a few years ago.... Interesting to find out that besides the young woman wedding the prince at the end, the stepmother usually found quite a gruesome demise. One of them (it might have been Cinderella) ended with the stepmother being forced to wear scorching red hot iron shoes and dance around until she fell over dead.

Re: What are you reading?
I had forgotten about the "real" story behind a number of fairy tales and nursery rhymes, as I did recall hearing about the ring around the rosie and it's meaning.
If I had thought about it more, I would not have thought Beedle was meant as lighter fare for the tots.

The Death of the Red King by Paul C Doherty, a "factional" account of the killing of William Rufus.

Save yourself some time and throw that book away. Atrocious. If you absolutely must know what happens to prepare yourself for the last book (hopefully it's the last one) then read Wikipedia.

Good advice. I've been stuck on it for 6 months and I'm still less than halfway through it. I haven't drawn the conclusion that it sucks yet but so far it hasn't drawn my attention the way other fantasy novels have hooked me.

Re: What are you reading?
Since Sarah didn't put an index in her book, Christopher Beam has provided one. Useful to see what's in the book without actually having to buy a copy:
http://www.slate.com/id/2235917/
Sample sentences from book:
"If God had not intended for us to eat animals, how come He made them out of meat?" page 133
"As the soles of my shoes hit the soft ground, I pushed past the tall cottonwood trees in a euphoric cadence, and meandered through willow branches that the moose munched on," page 102

Re: What are you reading?
I see nothing wrong with the animals are meat sentiment.
That sample was part of the following:
"I also trimmed the state food budget by keeping our home's freezer stocked with the wild seafood we caught ourselves, as well as organic protein sources hunted by friends and family. We kept an interesting variety of food that way. If any vegans came over for dinner, I could whip them up a salad, then explain my philosophy on being a carnivore: If God had not intended for us to eat animals, how come he made them out of meat?"
- page 133, paragraph 4
