yea..looking at MLS players salaries that are not DP's (excluding donovan) looks like the highest non-DP out there is Joseph at $425(base). 100k salary increase and the idea of living in northern NJ/NYC could make the deal happen.

one thing is for certian...the DP rules(for the one existing dp atleast) will not punish the teams that chose to use them cap wise next year. Garber has hinted at this changing time and time again

That's the key question. It's difficult to fit 2 DPs under the cap today, three would be impossible. But if there is a significant increase in the cap or if the DPs don't count against the cap or count for less (say, if the 2nd or 3rd only cost $200K), then you could have three without crippling the rest of the roster.
I'm fairly optimistic about this. I think the clear consensus in the league is that the DP experiment has been a success. There would be little point in expanding it if the teams were not able to use them due to cap limitations.
If it happens, it will be interesting to see how Red Bull reacts. Do they spend the money and go for 2 "big name" signings, like Henry AND Viera, or do they go for one big name and another quality player who requires a DP salary like $500K-1 million, but isn't as well known? Having spent $200 million on the stadium and considering the embarrassment if they can't regularly fill it, I suspect they will look for 2 big names.
That being said, I would be glad to "settle" for Henry and Schelotto.

Actually, the fee is now $40 million. So with Philly this year, Portland and Vancouver next year, and Montreal rumored a year later, you are looking at $160 million in "extra" money coming to the owners. The money is there to spend to improve the quality of play in the league, the question is just whether a majority of owners are willing to spend it. Or, in the case of the cheap owners and the extra DPs, whether they are willing to let other owners spend it.

the DP rule wont change without the salary going up for the 1 millionth time ive said this....the salary cap is almost certainly going to be raised next season, maybe not all the way to 4 mil, but between 2 and 4
Schelotto would easily be signed as a non DP if this were the case b/c the rumor before also said the max and minumum would both be raised slightly
i would like to see NY go after a very good centre back like Felipe Baloy of Monterrey whos contract will be up next year or Fabio Cannavaro who will also be done with Juventus soon
i think GBS, Henry, Larentowicz, and a very good centre back needs to be in their sights for sure.....left back will be a problem too, but im stuck on that one

Re: 3 DP's? RBNY implications
The best the league can do is, to charge just $ 1.00 (one) Dollar for the sign of a DP and let the team to pay the players. ..Asign two DP per team, this will be a virtual million dollars increase to the CAP and if they bring the real cap to $ 4 MD will be enough room for improvement.... and easy to organize a good team even with out DPs...If one team don't want to do so....
