LT is #1 in my book after beating LZ 2-1 (Troust should acknowledge that). Congrats!!!

Horacio Sanchez should be MVP for the playoff.

New Topic: Who's going to be hurting most by the graduating class (I think NV & LZ are going to miss their seniors big time) and who's your early favorites for next year's 2A & 3A?

I dont get why people care what that guy thinks. hes a clown that is in it for one thing, to hype up his lil pepsi shootout. Lyons is, and deserves to be, the #1 team in the state.

Whatever Trost is, I think we should recognize him for all he has done for High School soccer. He is one of the few who goes out on a limb and publicly writes opinions about the sport. As much as people hate it, it keeps things fun, it grows discussion, and it popularizes the sport as a whole. For that, I think he deserves a big thank you.

Less ad homenic (that is not how that is spelled, really bothering me), and more arguments about the opinions.

Moving on to contenders for next year...

NN - returning big time, although Weist and Boswell will be painful to see go
NV - I mean, they are always, always good.
Morton - couple young guns, hopefully can keep it together later in the year

Tis always difficult to tell though. But anyways, that is for next year.

Agree that Trost promotes the sport more than anyone in Chicago media. His bias for Pepsi teams shines through tho. This year is an exact repeat of 2004. Check www.westsuburbansports.com for a story on Downers South that won the whole thing that year. Had a couple losses during the season, one to Hinsdale Central. Hinsdale Central was undefeated and nationally ranked when Downers beat them in the sectional finals. Hinsdale did not go on to be ranked #1 by Trost or anyone esle for that matter. Downers South deserved that ranking, just like LT deserves it this year. But Joe likes to stir up stuff which does make it fun. He's just wrong on this one ....

I don't think anyone connected to the LT soccer team cares where they are ranked. You play for the hardware. That is all the proof you need, not one person's opinion. Ink fades over time, metal lasts forever.

I like high school in that regard. Club the coaches play to win, then when they lose they wave their hands around and talk about "development" and how their teams are better anyway. In high school, it's no excuses. The best team is the one that wins. Lyons was the best team, end of story.

Trost had a rant today on his blog as to how the IHSA title isn't as good as the Pepsi, format etc etc etc..............

""As one parent said to me this year, it's all about marketing. And yes, the world is all about marketing - as is the IHSA Tournament.
If you were to believe the scoreboard at North Central College this weekend, you would believe the best high school soccer is played there for the IHSA Finals. I turned to one reporter and one coach on Saturday and said, "How do they say that?"
It's not.Coaches know it, players know it, common sense parents know and other members of the media know. We talk about it all the time, have for years actually. As I help with the ESPNRISE.com rankings each week, we talk about it. The problem is some people are still living in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s when they think the IHSA Tournament is the best.
And the time has finally come to bust that marketing bubble...""

I know where he's coming from but the truth is LT won the title and finished 2nd in the Pepsi (if I remember right they could easily have snatched the Pepsi title from Neuqua)

I think it's time for Joe to get off his bully pulpit and show some respect to LT

Agreed. But he's not going to change his position. IF he continues this stuff he's going to lose some credibility in the soccer community....
