NOTE: Pele was not a main striker as Muller. Most often he was a support striker (56-68) and later more like playmaker/AM

A great amount of Pelé's 'friendlies' were as serious or more than a great amount of 'ofiziell' Müller's games.

Besides, Müller played by the 'cash register'.

Or in the bathtube.

Like Marlene Dietrich.

[QUOTE=gmonn;19210058][quote=RoyOfTheRovers;19210006]

The bold is agreeing with me, so you could have left out the first two paragraphs.

[I was NEVER agreeing or disagreeing w/you: I was simply trying to get a point across about how to ANALOGIZE Pele as a HoF-caliber hoopster. Talk about wasting typed words: I was NEVER looking for a debate on the issue in the 1st place.]

By the way, I watched both Maravich and Magic when they were playing, as well as Pele.

[Goody gumdrops, we'll hold a parade in your honor. ]

I'm saying Pele is not like a HoF-caliber NBA player. He's like the greatest NBA player in combining tremendous skill, great heart and drive for improvement, and, crucially, athleticism a level above other tremendous athletes.

[Whatever, mate: you can say Pele was like the Foghorn F-ing Leghorn of Looney Tunes for all I care. Again: I'm not trying to get too smart; I'm simply pointing out that I was NEVER looking for a debate on the subject. IMO I was simply trying to give a little insight into the analogy. No good deed goes unpunished, eh?]

wrong response...

gmonn has pointed out pele has scored more goals than any of them(greaves, van basten,müller)..the position of the players has not played a role in his response..müllers numbers are diffrent than greaves or van basten..

müller not ALLWAYS has played a main striker...example..in his first 2 season with bayern munich, munich never has played with a main striker..ohlhauser , müller and brenninger was the target offensive players..and in times the play and position between a called main striker and a support strikers is not much diffrent...

I don't know if it's that simple. The numbers are different on Wikipedia. And on top of some all time international goalscorers list is an Afghan. The point was, we can't say Muller was a dominant scorer and Pele wasn't. Which turned out to be beside the point!

Sigh... I wonder if Gerd Müller would defend himself better... Maybe if he commit a crime, he already has a lawyer

Err...

Maybe we should spell his name 'Mil'...'err'.

From 'mil' ('one thousand' in Portuguese) & 'err...'
