Default State of the Forum Poll - Colorado Rapids

Message from BigSoccer

We are asking all forum members to give us some feedback about the state of our forums. We would be grateful if you would take a few moments to vote in the poll, but more importantly post your thoughts about how things are going in this forum. Anything is fair game - the moderators, the quality of the discussion, the amount of traffic, the forum structure, etc.

Voting is useful, but we are most interested in ways you think BigSoccer and specifically this forum can be improved -- what we are doing right or wrong, and your thoughts generally about your use of this forum.

Thank you for any feedback you can provide!

This particular forum about the Rapids, or the entire bigsoccer?

I think I have only 2 comments about this particular forum.

For starters, the mods are frankly too lenient on some of the post-game trolling (that one DC fan who lives in Denver comes to mind instantly). I get that it's a volunteer job and a thankless job, but it'd be nice to just instantly get rid of those guys who are, for lack of a better word, douchebags that add nothing but annoyance to the forums. Same goes for some of the guys who claim to be Rapids fans but only show up around here when the team loses, in order to bitch. You know which people they are.

Secondly, I think that, especially during the offseason, it'd be nice to sticky some of the threads that we know are going to get made 1000 times before next year starts. Instead of having the roughly 4 threads right now on who to keep or cut from the roster, 4 threads on which particular member of the FO to fire, conversations across 6-8 different threads on the merits of Pablo, etc., it'd be nice to have a bit more order in here. I think it'd also be nice to just have a catch-all, NRR soccer thread for those who want to talk La Liga, the Premiership, MLS Cup etc. without having to worry about the [R]-birds flying in. It could be more work that it's worth, but it's just a thought.

Otherwise, it'd be nice to have more people here, but that's not going to happen till the team rights the ship.

I'd second RS's comments about the trolls and about the organization.

The organization part is tricky because of the inability for anyone but mods to split threads. I think often times we get a thread that heads off in two different directions and it be nice to be able to take one fo the discussions and spin it off into its own thread. Instead the best we can do is start a new thread on the subject and hope most of the conversation moves over to that one, but as we've seen it doesn't always work.

Apparently, freedom of expression is now called "Trolling".

Though it is true, this is a public forum where public comments are allowed. Especially opinionated ones. No one has to agree with 'em. Heck they don't even have to read the post, b|tching happens on every forum, and trolls are on every public forum ever created. You can only regulate but never get rid of.

I'm not a regular poster but I am a regular reader. I Like the "Blog & News" thread. That must be a lot of work to maintain... Thanks.

Trollers and people just looking to exercise their first amendment rights are easy enough to ignore. Obviously some sense of order and respect needs to be maintained but I would prefer to err on the side of a little chaos. This sort of thing should be as organic as possible IMO.

Actually there are no first amendment rights to freedom of speech here. The first amendment only applies to the government preventing freedom of speech, not private corporations. If BigSoccer decided tomorrow that the only acceptable posts were pro-FSL posts that would be perfectly fine.

It would, of course, kill their user base and probably run them out of business.
