Succes + Fan base + History = Big America, Chivas, Cruz Azul, and Pumas have all 3.. Pachuca has only one... Dude no one is saying that Pachuca in 20 years wont be one of the big clubs, I am just saying they arent big... get that through your head!
I was in Mexico for the America-Pachuca final and the streets of Manzanillo were filled with Pachuca supporters after the game. Waving flags, honking horns, etc. Purely anecdotal but figured I'd throw that out there.
Dude I can tell you this.. Leon which Plays in Primera A is closer to beign a bigger club than Pachuca..
But ManU's success isnt just something from 92 onward.... they were great in the 50s and 60s. they just had a bad spell....
im 100 percent sure the players from Pachuca dont have the same pressure as the players from Chivas,America,CA,UNAM.
I've always thought that Atletico Celaya had one of the best logos in Mexico. En serio, puede ser. Pachuca being a big club at the moment is irrelevant. They are attempting to do things right. It sickens me to hear that they should be criticized more by the media. Just like Hugo thought big in Espana, Pachuca has decided to think big in the MFL. Like RDL's pappy used to tell him, Shoot for the stars, yet if you only reach the moon, its not a bad place to be. Lastly where's austin?
LOL....I'm thinking Pumas and Pachuca are going to have a surge in the next couple of weeks but it will be interesting to see the trends over time.
this is what i have a really hard time understanding. so many of these same people complain about our media coverage and how negative it is, yet the requisite to obtain respect as a big team seems to call for negative media coverage. rather than hope this could start a trend eradicating such trash media for big teams one wants it to be there, and complains that it is not for a team who is actually doing things well, incorporating young mexicans into their team, slowly having them called up to the national team and winning titles. i don't get it, but oh well. i'm done with this discussion
Out of curiosity, I dug up that Jan 2008 national survey on favorite teams. (There's a link or thread somewhere on BS about it) For those who weren't around at the time- General Population (%) Guadalajara (14.9%) America (14.9) Cruz Azul (9.3) Pumas (6.8) Atlas (2.0) Pachuca (1.7) Soccer Fans Only (%) Guadalajara (22.7%) America (21.8) Cruz Azul (14.0) Pumas (9.8) Atlas (3.1) Pachuca (2.6)
Toluca was right behind Pachuca. The table I copied from is interesting, as it also compares the rankings to their previous survey in 2005. So for instance, Toluca's popularity is the same as in 2005, but Pachuca's has increased. Also, of the 17 teams mentioned, the last 4 are Tecos and Puebla, but 14 and 15 are Tigres and Monterrey. In another table, we learn that out of the big 4 fans, Pumas is always their second favorite team (ie- a Chivas fan roots for Pumas second, as does CAzul, America), but America is never the second favorite team. (and yes, America is the most hated team, marketing works!!) If TTM every gives me some free time, maybe I'll type the whole thing up.
