Default FC Porto vs Manchester United - UEFA CL Quarter-Finals - 1st Leg [R]

VS

Quarter-finals - 07 April 2009 20:45 (CET) - Old Trafford - Manchester - England
Few would find any crumb of comfort when faced with the prospect of visiting reigning European and world champions Manchester United FC in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals. Few but not all – just ask the supporters of FC Porto.
Fond memories
Old Trafford and 2004 hold sweet memories for Porto, when a last-gasp goal from Costinha eliminated United from the competition in the first knockout round and set the Dragons on their way to lifting the trophy in Gelsenkirchen. Perhaps then, it is only fitting that the man who masterminded those heroics, José Mourinho, is backing his former team to shock the Red Devils again. Mourinho, whose FC Internazionale Milano side were eliminated by United in the last round, thinks Porto have it in them to cause another surprise.
Possibilities
"All coaches have a belief in their team and FC Porto are a team with tradition in the Champions League," Mourinho said. "They can eliminate United – it is possible. In 2004 everyone thought it was impossible, but it wasn't, so why can it not be possible now?" The pressure certainly seems to be on United who brought a two-game losing run in the Premier League to an end with a narrow, last gasp-win against Aston Villa FC on Sunday. With injuries hurting the holders, how will they cope against Porto just two days after playing Villa?
On the rise
Porto, on the other hand, are improving by the game and lead the Portuguese Liga having lost only twice in their last 25 matches in all competitions, those defeats a consequence of fielding understrength teams against CD Nacional and Sporting Clube de Portugal in the League Cup. Such form understandably means confidence is high, with coach Jesualdo Ferreira saying: "United were the team we wanted to face. We can achieve our goals."
Surprises
With the likes of Lucho, Cristián Rodríguez, Lisandro and Hulk now firing on all cylinders, Porto will know they have a chance of upsetting the odds. Football never ceases to amaze, forever producing surprises. Porto shocked Europe in 1987 and 2004. Why not for a third time?

I have a good feeling about this game, hopefully Porto will be able to pull of some magic, FORCA PORTO!!

Totally Agree! I think the fact that we are underdogs will work to our advantage, when all of Old Trafford stares in awe at the power of Lucho, Licha, and Hulk

The way ManU is playing, I can see Porto tying. Possibily winning 1-0 if Porto's back line is completely solid.

But even Im amped for this one.

As much as despise Porto, i'm hoping for a win today. I can't stand Manchester United. If Lisandro gets a clear shot on goal, he will score.

Right now Porto is a much better side, and the score shows. MU 0- FCP 1.
Porto can hold them off now, CR is not the same player he was last year, neither is MU as good as last year.
