Re: AFL 2009 -- Round 2
And a recap of the Friday night game, at AAMI Stadium, between Adelaide and St. Kilda:
Adelaide 10.9 (69)
St. Kilda 15.11 (101)
So much for the Saints' inability to win matches interstate, and particularly with their poor record at this ground over the last several years. A lot of respect to St. Kilda's forward line, beyond Nick Riewoldt's efforts, and with Trent Hentschel spending a lot of the time in the second half injured, this match underlined the Crows' lack of depth in their forward line.

Re: AFL 2009 -- Round 2
Saturday's results -- and since I had a double-shift that ended late last night, I'm not going to be able to comment much...
At the MCG, Collingwood v Melbourne:
Collingwood 17.15 (117)
Melbourne 10.4 (64)
Melbourne led early, but faded after halftime. Have the Demons -- after their wooden spoon last year -- forgotten how to win games, or because they have such a young side, they don't know how to win them yet?
Can't take anything away from Collingwood, though. Alan Didak and Tarkyn Lockyear led from the front after star midfielder Dale Thomas was a late withdrawl from the match due to a virus.
At Kardinia Park in Geelong, Geelong v Richmond:
Geelong 15.15 (105)
Richmond 13.7 (85)
The Cats got the four premiership points while the Tigers avoided a blowout and played much more competitive footy than they did against Carlton in Round 1 -- so in a manner of speaking, no losers here.
Gary Ablett Jr. played a blinder in the final term to help get the Cats over the line, as Geelong's entire midfield dominated the fourth quarter. Steve Johnson kicked a freakish goal midway through the period to give the Cats not just more of a lead towards the finish, but an emotional edge in front of the home fans to see the game out.
Bad news for Geelong, however, with Brad Ottens suffering a knee injury. It had been initially feared the Cats' big ruckman would be gone for the season, but the Grade One medial ligament injury will only mean Ottens will be gone for 4-6 weeks.
Saturday night, at the Docklands stadium, Carlton v Brisbane:
Carlton 18.11 (119)
Brisbane 15.10 (100)
Brendan Fevola saved his best when it mattered most, kicking three vital goals in the fourth quarter to guide Carlton home. But Brisbane -- on the losing end despite six goals from Daniel Bradshaw and three more from Jonathan Brown -- will have to sweat out a ruling from the Match Review Panel, after Jonathan Brown was reported late in the final term for apparent rough conduct on Carlton's Marc Murphy.
And at ANZ Stadium in Homebush, Sydney v Hawthorn:
Sydney 22.11 (143)
Hawthorn 15.15 (105)
The Swans completely dominated the ruck contests, taking advantage of a depleted ruck division for Hawthorn with Simon Taylor suspended and Robert Campbell a late withdrawl. Darren Jolley amassed 42 hit-outs to set up the Swans' attack that looked anemic in Round 1 against St. Kilda, and Adam Goodes and Barry Hall were the main beneficiaries with four goals apiece.

Re: AFL 2009 -- Round 2
And some random photos from yesterday's games...
Geelong's Joel Selwood -- who will win a Brownlow Medal someday -- takes on three Richmond players.
Geelong's Tom Hawkins takes a speccy over a Richmond defender.
Collingwood's Heath Shaw holds on, despite this big hit from Melbourne's Brad Miller.

Re: AFL 2009 -- Round 2
Sydney's Adam Goodes flies highest to take a big mark against Hawthorn.
And speaking of Goodes, does anyone want to play "fill the caption" for this photo from the same game?

Re: AFL 2009 -- Round 2
If anyone needs help on tipping, I'd suggest just looking at who I've tipped on the games shown on Setanta and tip the other way.
4 tips, 0 wins and 4 defeats, with a combined losing margin of 234 points!

Re: AFL 2009 -- Round 2
And our tipping results...
For Round 2:
el-capitano -- 8
ChrisH -- 7
babytiger2001 -- 6
Spartacus -- 6
RichardL -- 5
krudmonk -- 4
NoodlesMacintosh -- 4
mrsbabytiger2001 -- 4
ScouseCat -- 4
RedRo -- 3
And our collated totals, through the first two rounds of the 2009 AFL season:
ChrisH -- 13
Spartacus -- 12
el-capitano -- 11
babytiger2001 -- 11
krudmonk -- 11
RichardL -- 10
ScouseCat -- 10
NoodlesMacintosh -- 9
mrsbabytiger2001 -- 7
RedRo -- 3
All over the shop for this round, but it's making for an interesting ladder right now, with two of our newbies on top.
And well done to el-capitano -- not just for having a perfect "8" for this round, but for the play of the round by being the only one to tip St. Kilda away against Adelaide, even in spite the the Saints' poor form in South Australia over the years recently.

Actually, I picked only four winners, not six.

I stand corrected. And good onya for picking St. Kilda (after doing this, I've realized that el-capitano wasn't the only one).
