So I know it wasn't a big deal since all the same people were re-elected last year, but isn't it election time for the leadership?
Nope, no elections. We figured we would just segue from a democracy into a benevolent dictatorship... We are having a leadership committee meeting coming up, so I know we will finalize the details of the upcoming elections. I think that myself, Kathie and Greg are up for election this time around but that might not be correct.
Actually, based on a meeting the Leadership Group had back in December, it was decided that, due in part to voter apathy and to the fact that everyone seems to be doing a pretty good job in their positions, we would bypass elections for the upcoming year. That, combined with potential changes that may happen, is why there is no change in the Leadership Group for the 2009 season. If anyone would like to be involved with the Cauldron Leadership, feel free to send me a note and we can certainly talk about what you would like to do and how we can make it happen. Robert
As a President of a non-profit organization in Overland Park, I would recommend that you check your bye-laws to make sure skipping an election is ok. You might be better off having unopposed candidates and having an "election" just so you don't violate them. Just my two cents ....
That was what I was thinking as well, I believe the Cauldron "charter" says that we have to have elections.
All those in favor of re-electing the current slate, please raise your hands. Mine's up! All opposed, ... post your nominations here!
https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=638389&highlight=election Bylaws are in the first post.
I nominate Kuhnscoot for VP. I believe Mike may accept this nomination. I also nominate Sazzy for community outreach. Granted I do not think Jeff will accept, but in my eyes he is one of the few people who tries to get the word out about the team and it's supporter section as well as always interacting with walkups on game day. Now you have two nominees. After all this is a time for change. Feel free to nominate others.
Can some one please clarify for me what positions we are nominating and what positions are to be retained. I realize according to the bylaws we don't have to vote on all positions but is it the belief of the majority that those positions not be changed? Thanks
The positions that should be open for election this year from reading the link I posted are VP, treasurer, and community outreach.
Correct the positions up for election this year are as follows (incumbent in brackets): Vice President (Greg Zimmerman) Treasurer (Kevin Shook) Community Outreach (Kathie Thomas)
And here are the people that have been nominated: VP Mike Kuhn Treasurer Community OutReach Jeff (szazzy)* Jason Thomas has been nominated, but not sure what Mark meant by open position. * - Hasn't accepted
Thanks for the clarity, however I guess my questions was more along the lines of is it the majority opinion that all current officers be retained. I realize that we are not required to have an election for those positions but it is my interpretation of the bylaws that we can change those positions if we so choose.
Knock yourself out, I know last year there was only like 1 person other then the incumbents running for a position, so if this gets more people active, go for it.
It was decided initially that we would hold elections for 3 of the 6 positions each year. The reason for this was to prevent a situation where we suddenly have 6 new people in the Leadership Group, requiring them to basically "re-invent" the wheel as far as running the section and dealing with the FO. Maybe things have changed in the last year, but last January when it was time for elections, there was only 1 person nominated for each of the available 3 positions, and none of those 3 nominees accepted the nominations, thus leaving the incumbents unopposed. It's certainly possible things could actually be better this year. That being said, if any of the 6 were to decide at any point that they no longer wanted to serve, they could step down and put their position up for election.
I nominate Justice for Community Relations and Magic for Tres. Secretary. I think they would both do a good job.
