I get it. Kind of like how I knew some of the guys in the 90s/early 2000s. Not BVB players. Others in the BL.
But I got to meet them through my short bit of reporting work.

Süddeutsche
According to this article, the chapter Subotic/Germany has been closed by the DFB.
I'm not 100% sure about this, but they probably really had no clue about the exact regulations.

I think he'd be smart to choose Serbia whether it is "in his heart" or not.
He won't choose the USA.

I agree. Serbia will be a smarter and quality better side then USA.

Smarter, I don't know.
Better quality, probably.
But the USA has the much easier path to the World Cup every four years....
However, our idiots in charge don't know how to respect all players, so if they don't improve, I even hope Neven doesn't go back.

Re: Neven Subotić
I'm a bit surprised. Actually, just yesterday a representative from our federation told me that the application for citizenship is still valid.
Could it be that they're just interpreting what Sammer said?

You never know with the press. That could very well be.

Smithfan, thanks for the info regarding Neven.
I have a few questions: First, what is article 15? why and how does it preclude Neven from playing for Germany.
Under what grounds could he appeal to FIFA? And what is the likelihood that he would win his case? Are there any precedents?
Finally, if this looks "complicated" does that mean it would take some time? If so, how much time would some time be?
I'd be thrilled if Neven could play for Germany and I hope he sticks out the process, even if it's a long one, to make his wish come true.
I'd happily give him my German citizenship if I could.
Thanks Smithfan.
Take care.

Careful with your words their. Citizenship doesn't necessarily mean that he can suit up for the national team. FIFA has been trying to prevent every team from becoming Brazilian, so citizenship is not the litmus test. So he may be a German citizen, but still can't play for Germany.
