He may have been a far right-winger, but was a great actor.

Who can forget Earthquake, Airport 1975, The Omega Man, El Cid, Ben Hur, The Ten Commandments, and one of my all-time favorites - Planet of the Apes.

So in honor of ol' Charlton, I'm going to go and shoot my pellet gun.

    1) You beat me to my punchline, dammnit!

    2) Heston was far from a far right-winger. He was a firm-believer in the gun-ownership rights, but on many other issues he was a left-of-center kinda guy.

    3) I'm gonna go watch Kenneth Branagh's Hamlet now. He was the bomb in that.

Fox has a respectful eulogy, film chronicle, and photo essay of this American legend:

Breaks my heart that such good men have to pass from the earth! He played Moses, Ben Hur, the President, and hundreds of other roles, then made us all proud as leader of the organization of freedom; President of the National Rifle Association (1998-2003). His last words were posted...

"I'm confident about the future of America. I believe in you. I know that the future of our country, our culture and our children is in good hands. I know you will continue to meet adversity with strength and resilience, as our ancestors did, and come through with flying colors - the ones on Old Glory."

Welcome this man to Heaven at the right side of the Lord. Rest in Peace sir...

Oh yeah, I almost forgot -- I hope Michael Moore feels like crap now for being so rude to him in that movie.

btw Revolt, you didn't get the quote correct; it was:

    "From my cold, dead hands!"

One of my favorite lines ever... Greatest statement of freedom ever uttered by an American.

Marching with Dr. King, a gun used to kill Dr. King, and he still supported ordinary jerk offs having the right to own a gun. Brilliant.

I'm not sure you've made a sadder statement during your time here.

If there were no guns someone probably would have got to King with a sword or a hatchet. What a mess that would have made.

For your information cops are ordinary jerk offs as we all know. Let's take away their guns and give them all to the smart guys. I am sure they will be smart enough not to use them if they had them.

My favorite Heston line is from the Ten Commandments was to Neferteri.

"Anyone stupid enough to use you as a foot stool would not be wise enough to rule Egypit"

Could we keep the cynicism and the political commentary out of this at least for a few days. The man just died last night. Show some respect for the dead.

Sorry I lost respect for him when he showed up after others were killed by guns to give a freaking speech. It's a bitch when things like this come full circle for guys like this.

Interesting note there BigGuy, as I wasn't aware that cops were jerk offs. In fact there should be some cops that don't have guns at all, you are correct.

Seriously, has any one actor ever had so many great one-liners?

    "Blood makes poor mortar"

    RIP Charlton.

I didn't always agree with you on gun related issues, but agreed with you on civil rights issues. Putting aside politics, you were one great actor.

RIP, Chuck. We should all be so lucky to live such a full life.

I've never owned a gun. I don't ever plan on owning a gun. But I wish that you could have defended our right to have one without siding with the NRA.

Well, Bush (and Yoo) are not too happy with the rights of the 4th Amendment, so that's pretty much gone.

Are you sure that you want to be getting into an argument that BushCo. is in favor of the Constitution and the Bill Of Rights?

What does this thread have to do with "BushCo"?

The point I was making was that it's a bit odd (hypocritical) to be decrying the loss of constitutional rights on a message board while avidly drinking the BushCo Kool Aid.
