The black jersey used to be the trainings kit - and this pic looks like the last match of last season. Not sure whether they have a new away kit for this season yet, but I bet it will be red again ;)

I thought it was odd they were wearing black, but I never got a good look via the 5 pictures on the site.

You are right, this was the away kit in 05/06 - in 06/07 the away kit was white tho and during the pre-season or other test matches they were using the black uniforms.

The match where they are having the white uniforms, here http://www.psv.nl/multimedia/SamenvattingKolnPSV-lamanga.wmv, Cologne won against the current Dutch champion 2:0 !

None of the links are working.

    ==
Why do you think the new away kit will be red? Is that because the home kit is white?

Does anyone have an MP3 of the FC Köln hymn?

mmm, links are working for me:confused:

Yeah, the new jersey you posted here was mostly white, that's why I assume that the away one will be red.

Don't have an mp3 version of the anthem :(

To give you an impression what the lyrics of "Mer stonn zo dir" are about, I tried to translate it. It's sung in the local dialect, not in the German standard language. By the way, I'd appreciate if a native speaker could tell me how to put the "We swear..." line in a more idiomatic way, because I'm almost sure it must sound very strange to you...

Ehrenfeld, Raderthal, Nippels, Poll, Esch, Pesch, and Kalk,
there are FC Kölle fans everywhere.
In Rio (de Janeiro), in Rome, (Bergisch) Gladbach, Prüm, and Habbelrath,
there are FC Kölle fans everywhere.

In good times and bad, future and past,
(there’s) a feeling that connects (us): FC Kölle.
Whether forwards or backwards, a new game is a new opportunity.
(There’s) a feeling that connects (us): FC Kölle.

    Chorus:
We swear to you by loyalty and honour:
We’ll stand by you, FC Kölle!
And we’ll go with you through fire if necessary,
we’ll always stick by you only, FC Kölle!

Whether young or old, whether poor or rich,
together we are strong: FC Kölle.
Through thick and thin, never mind whereto,
only together we are strong: FC Kölle.

    Chrorus:
    We swear…

Links are working fine for me now as well. Strange.

    Thanks for the lyrics.

    Pretty cool.

Ok, was working on this translation, with a little help from my german friend :D

I sorted the words to give it a little more sense and in a way that it fits closer to the german lyrics.

Ehrenfeld, Raderthal, Nippes, Poll, Esch, Pesch, and Kalk,
all-around the world are fans of FC Koelle
In Rio (de Janeiro), in Rome, Bergisch (Gladbach), Prüm, and Habbelrath,
all-around the world are fans of FC Koelle

in Joy or in sorrow, in future and in past
an emotion that connects: FC Koelle
Whether forwards or backwards, a new game is a new opportunity.
an emotion that connects: FC Koelle

    Chorus:
with all our loyalty and honor we pledge to you:
We’ll stand by you, FC Koelle!
And we’ll go with you, if necessary, through fire
we’ll always stick by you: FC Koelle

Whether young or old, whether poor or rich,
together we are strong: FC Kölle.
Through thick and thin, never mind where we go
only together we are strong: FC Koelle.

I learned that in the cologne dialect Koelle is slang for cologne (Koeln) :p

I'm interested in this club thing you have going on.
I visit the Koeln website occasionally but it's tough because of no english option. So I usually get my info from the bundesliga.de website.

So that looks like 7 members in North America, and 3 in Germany.

Might need to do some more recruiting.

I’m German but unfortunately also not living in Cologne, sorry. But as I said before I’m willing to do some German-English/ English-German translating for you if that gets your commendable project going… :)

There are more - keep your eyes peeled - I just PM'ed one guy I saw with Cologne in his favorite clubs, there are a lot of folks who went over for the World Cup that have adopted our club. Let people know, let's get a small group together, and once we can get a web presence up that should help, too.

Actually, that made me think - does anybody remember "The Professor" from the old NAS or US-Soccer listservs? He was a Cologne fan, I think.

    Drew Carey?

If anyone has the time, maybe we could email the existing clubs and ask if they know of any overseas members we should contact?

That guy must be me :D

Love to join. Last year at the World Cup a group of my friends stayed in Köln for the two weeks of our vacation. We had an absolutely blast and I fell in love with the city, its people, and its Kölsch. I still miss walking through the cobblestone streets of the Altstadt with a Kölsch in hand.

Before heading to the World Cup, I started following how FC Köln was doing in the Bundesliga and to watch Podolski (before he made the switch to München). It was a bit dissappointing when they got relegated, although it would have been a miracle for them to stay up. Anyway, I told myself that I'd pick up (or trade for) an FC Köln jersey while in Germany.

I didn't have any luck trading my DC United jersey for an FC one, but I did end up picking up one of the black away jersey's at one of their fan stores. There weren't too black jersey's available (although that was probably more to do with them being discontinued over popularity). A friend of mine did end up trading his DC United jersey for an older FC jersey with a guy he met at the Fan Fest one night. Apparently the guy wasn't too keen to depart with his shirt, but did it to impress a girl that was hanging out with my friend. :)

Anyway, since Köln went down, I've been hard pressed to find a lot of articles about their season. As it turns out, since returning from Germany, I've also haven't had much luck relearning my Deutsch. Go figure.

Anyway, I'd love to join the North American Köln Club.

Some of you may recognize my Avatar... a bunch of the US supporters that made the trip to Germany and stayed in Köln picked a little pub called Päffgen as a meeting spot. There was a "Little" Päffgen in the Altstadt and a "Big" Päffgen on Friesenstraße (I think). Do you know which one this is?
