Default Re: Beckerman Chat

In case anyone missed it here is the transcript from his chat today

JULIO FROM MIAMI, FL: Hello Kyle, I am a big Rapids fan. I hoping we get a team here in Miami soon. I believe that we need to get 3 points against Houston today. The rapids as not have success against Houston. What you and the Rapids need to do to win? Have a great game. Julio

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:03 PM ET ) Well I agree with you, we need a team in Miami! As for us, we need to execute on offense and defense. It is going to be a tough game, because it is very hot down here in Houston and they have some good players coming off the bench to fill in for the guys at the Gold Cup. We just need to play our best and finish off our chances.

Jeremy (Southern Colorado): What do you think of a guy like Landon Donovan who would rather play for his club instead of his country during Copa America?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:05 PM ET ) Well that is his decision. I know Landon and I know that he would like to play for both teams. He wants his club to do well, and I understand that. But you always want to play for your National Team and it probably kills him that he can't play for both.

Peter: In soccer one often hears of a countries style, do you feel as if the MLS and US soccer is developing a type of style and what type of style would it be?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:08 PM ET ) I think that is one of the big things that in the US we are trying to find, because we have so many different influences here. We have the Mexican influence in MLS, and an English influence, so we are a mix of styles. Right now we are trying to find it and we are getting there. We are a bit of a mix. Most MLS teams play a passing style with some long balls and some crosses. I think it is a work in progress and the more years we have a league and a national team an American style will develop on its own.

Jumbalaya (Flagstaff, AZ): Hey Kyle, Congrats on a good start to the season both individually and as a team! I was at the sold-out May 26 game, what difference has it made having new kits, new stadium, several new players this year?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:10 PM ET ) Well it has been great. You can really tell a difference in the stadium with the fans closer to the field. It has been much louder. It really feels like it is our home. The new stadiums really create an great atmosphere. We like the new kits, and the new players that have come in are really gelling well with us, and that is great.

Anthony, Comstock NY: Hey KYLE, Im 8 years old from new yokr. Was soccer your favorite sport growing up. It's defintly mine Who's your favorite player to watch?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:12 PM ET ) Yes it was my favorite sport when I was growing up Anthony! My favorite player to watch is probably Henry, from Arsenal. When he gets going he is pretty amazing. But I enjoy watching any big team play, it does not just have to be Arsenal and Henry.

Isaac (WI): With a majority of the MLS teams getting soccer specific stadiums, which stadium (other than Dick?s Sporting Goods Park) do you enjoy playing in the most?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:15 PM ET ) I really like DC United even though it is not soccer specific, because it is a homecoming for me and I feel like their crowd is amazing even though they are in a football stadium. The Home Depot Center is also great, and of course Chicago's stadium is great, it has a real European feel to it and they have great fans. But I also can't forget about Toronto's fans, those fans are amazing. I never experienced fans like that.

Tim: Everyone gets asked this, but would you want to play in Europe and if so, where?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:16 PM ET ) I watch a lot of the EPL, so that is one place where I would want to play. I find their soccer culture amazing. That is where I would want to play, for sure.

Nick (Portugal): Who is the best attack midfielder in the world?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:18 PM ET ) My top 5 players, in no particular order would have to be Danny Alves, Messi, C. Ronaldo, Kaka' and Ronaldinho.

Justin (Denver): Hey Kyle, Do you see more opportunities at the national level for you in the future? Does Pablo give you any advice?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:19 PM ET ) I hope that I do have some chances with them. I really hope I get on the Copa America roster. And yes, Pablo gives me advice all the time, in soccer and life. He is a very good friend of mine, and it has been awesome to get to play with him for so long!

Bishop (Boulder, Co): Hey Kyle, Good season so far, keep it up. The Rapids have scored more than one goal in a game on only two occasions. Do you believe there is a reason for the lack of offensive production this year, and what do we need to do to put more balls in the goal? Ps. Tell Bouna we want to see some Bouna Time tonight.

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:22 PM ET ) I'm not sure what it is. It could have to do with guys moving around position wise and the tinkering with the lineup. But I think tonight you will be surprised with some of the changes and hopefully it will help us score more. And I will tell Buona it is Buona Time tonight.

Tommy (CO): Do you see yourself staying with the Rapids for the rest of your career?

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:24 PM ET ) I've been with the Rapids for many years and I like it here. I do not want to leave until we win a title. So as for now I would like to be a Rapid for my career. There are always bigger things with Europe and South America, but I like the people here and the weather and the team. And not many players stay with one club for a long time, so I think it would be very cool to do that.

Tony, Syracuse: Hey Kyle Do you think soccer and the MLS is growing in the US?....Go Rapids!

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:27 PM ET ) I really think it is growing. We are starting to see the big time signings fromEurope and South America and the play is getting better. So it is growing, and growing fast, and it is very good to see. I can't wait for all teams to be in the soccer stadiums and all on grass. It is a pretty neat thing to be a part of, and I hope I am still around when everyone's getting paid millions of dollars and the sport is all over the place. It will get there it will just take some time.

SportsNation Kyle Beckerman: (2:29 PM ET ) Thanks a lot of loging on! I am flattered that you all took the time out to chat with me, and asked some great question. I will be back any time!
