Re: Mathis trade rumor
Even if we were, I still like having Cunningham (#90) for it.
Be happy! No more cleetus and you don't have to pay for him to stink elsewhere.
FWIW: Mathis said the same things about coming to RSL. "i want to play for the coach...... until he bags on me for sucking." (I added that last part)

Re: Mathis trade rumor
As best I can tell (although it's not like they'd let us know) the Rapids still haven't added Omar Cummings to their roster. This means an SI slot is open. The allocation list as of end of Feb showed two partials for NY (one in the middle as part of Peguero and one at the bottom http://www.mlsnet.com/about/league.j...t=allocations). Obviously one is better than the other and we'll be hard pressed to find out which one we got for Clint. Will this move Colorado far enough up the queue to bring in a quality SI??

Re: Mathis trade rumor
Wow - I was kinda looking forward to seeing what an in shape Cleetus could do for us with some help around him. Oh well, if we get something decent for it - and RSL is still on the hook for any difference in salary I guess it'll be good.
Now the question is - how long has this been in the works - obviously it's too late for us to go out and get much of anything with any money/allocations we get from this - unless somehow it is tied in with Conor Casey. That'd be alright by me.
jeff
PS - this has to mean that FC didnt see too much playing time in Clint's future here right? That in and of itself shows that maybe we arent relying on the old guys as much (an improvement) - and from what i read - it looks like Jovan has been doing a little bit in the pre-season matches (or was I dreaming). Step forward? Who knows - we dont have too much room to step backwards though.

Re: Mathis trade rumor
My initial reaction was a bit unhappy, I too was hoping for a healthy Cleetus. But, I think this could turn into a good thing. Mathis is expendable with Jovan and Beckerman already playing his kind of position. Pablo didn't seem to get along with Clint at all when the two were on the field at the same time. I swear I remember thinking Pablo was making bad passes towards Clint last year and gesturing for Clint to run harder, etc. The idea that some people are throwing around that we might be setting up for a trade for Conor Casey seems possible.

Unless we get Conor Casey out of this, I'm a little preturbed. The season starts in like 10 days for goodness sakes.

Re: Mathis trade rumor
Another thought would be somehow dealing for Shalrie Joseph. That would be sweet. I know some people think it would make for a clogged midfield, but I think you could go with a 3-5-2 or stick Pablo at a central defensive spot and move Ugo to the right flank in a 4-4-2. Just wishful thinking, I guess. Anyway, Clint is gone, that's what lots of people on these boards have been asking for, so we should all be happy, right?

I heard from a trainer working with the Nats that Casey really wants to be here and was working toward it this winter.

Re: Mathis trade rumor
Ok, I'll admit it, I'm a little sad to have Mathis go. I've been pulling for him and was hoping for a breakout year. Now what will I do if he has one? Also, Colin Clark just told me the other day that Clint has been a great mentor for him so I'm a little sad for him too.

Re: Mathis trade rumor
I wonder what his #1 fan thinks? You know who I'm talking about - the one that calls us all sheep - the only one that understands soccer?
How bout it?
