Damn it. As much as I loathe the Rapids I have always thought they had a simple yet classy logo. Similar to some classic European logos.

Now I guess I can fully hate the Rapids.

Let's all bare in mind the Houston 1836 logo "leak" while looking at this. I would be hesitant to bet the farm on this being the new look of Colorado, and not the work of someone with a creative mind and photoshop.

I'm hoping they go with white and blue striped home kits (just change the black in their current kits to white) and either sky blue or black change kits.

But that would make too much sense. Roll out the red and white!

Every time I see the TFC logo I think, "Is that a Total 90 ball?"

The 1836 one was just a big soccer poster with photoshop, before NDL posts something he verifies it with a couple of sources so his information is usually pretty reliable. That doesn't mean this will be it, but I'd guess it's pretty close to it or at least one of the final ones up for consideration.

Well, the "Wiz to Wizards" was lawsuit driven by the now-defunct East Coast consumer electronics chain "Nobody Beats The Wiz!".

If you're talking about name rebranding
You could include Houston 1836 to Houston Dynamo.

If you're talking about logo/color scheme rebranding
You've got the Galaxy color scheme makeover in 2003 and the Wizards 2000 transition from the rainbow to blue/white. You might even include Colorado's reintroduction of the green on this year's away jersey.

I thought the circular current Rapids logo was just fine.

My first thoughts when I saw the logo. Yay - another team with a red and blue motif. Don't have enough of those already. Why are they copying Real Salt lake colors?

My second thought: Aren't the Avalanche maroon and blue too?

    [IMG][IMG]

The logo is not horrible - just another uninspired, stereotypical image from that company in NY that does ALL the MLS logo stuff. Its just lame. Why not go back to green where it all began? Can we not get a Celtic or solid green shirts in MLS.

So because MLS uses the same company for it its logos what we get are like the shades of difference between Sprite, Sierra Mist, 7-Up etc...

Whatever. Glad they're not my team.

My first thought, too, was of the Avalanche. At least they didn't go blue and orange.

Much much better than the logo that looks like it was used by every youth soccer team.

Would it kill MLS or the Rapids to come up with 2 or 3 different logos, color schemes, and mock up uniforms and then present them to the season ticket holders and let them vote?

The logo looks like it came from a video game.

    the rapids should be green.

and I'm not usually in favor of Euro names, but Colorado Arsenal would've made sense in this case just because of where they built the stadium.

but the rapids should never have left their green unis behind.

The Galaxy changes from "teal/gold" to "green/gold" when the hdc opened in 2003.

I like it. Aston Villa and one other team in the EPL have the same colors. If the shirt is done right it will look good.

    Bingo.

I've already done my bitching on the Rapids board. But as I'm not a Rapids fan, I'll do it here as well.

I've said it a million times. I'm sick of rebranding. Where's the F*CKING TRADITION????!!!!???!?!?!?!

I get the logic of using the same colors as the Avalanche.

    I.

    don't.

    care.

Oooh, it's not *exactly* red, so that's OK?

    Give me a f*cking break.

    It's red.

I *might* (heavily qualified) give them a break if the uniforms are something surprising and interesting. Red and blue stripes. Red and blue hoops. Blackburn half/half (that's the one thing MLS did right the first season. Or, it would've been right, if they'd only chosen *reasonable* colors at the same time. And kept them for more than one season. And hadn't used a stupid sawtooth border.)

The saddest thing about this is that it only confirms that, 10 years from now, my Hoops will no longer be hoops. Probably won't even be red. They'll be some shade of whatever is the new red. Probably back to teal. It's been long enough.

    fie.

    so true. so true. :(

anyway i like the new rapids logo ... the influx of red teams doesn't bother me at all.

EDIT: the green photoshop version above is better, imho.

Nice design. I, too, prefer the homemade green version above, but if they go with a forrest green accent color on the uniform, that could be enough.

I respect what people are saying about tradition, but keeping something ugly (this means you, New England) just because it's been a tradition is dumb marketing.

The colors make sense, considering the other team Kroenke owns...

Thankfully they didn't change the name to Arsenal, that would have taken europosing to a whole new level.

    Shape - Good

Colors - Good, for an expansion team. Not for a team with its third completely different color scheme in 12 years. I'm glad I bought the Rapids road jersey this year, as it appears to be the last green we're going to see for a while.

I like the shape but hope the jerseys are green just to have something besides red in MLS. Someone on the Rapids forum suggested that may be "96" at the bottom, which looks about right.
