Confirmed team : Scotland Holland and England ( hosts ), New-Zealand France
My understanding is South Africa and Canada could be playing as well but it has not been confirmed.

A real alternative to the Algarve Cup now with 3 groups of 4 teams for 2011

    Group 1
    Canada
    England
    Italy
    Scotland

    Group 2
    France
    Netherlands
    New Zealand
    Switzerland

    Group 3
    North Korea
    South Korea
    Russia
    Northern Ireland

Match dates 2nd, 4th and 7th March for group matches and 9th March for classification matches (same as Algarve Cup).

Not sure how they will work the Group 3 teams - in the Algarve Cup they are much weaker than the teams in the Top 2 groups, but here they seem to be a similar level (apart from Northern Ireland). North Korea might even be the best team there and it doesn't seem fair that they won't get to compete for the title. I'm not sure what other format the tournament could take though - unless they put the 2 group winners with the best records in the final?

Could be that new entries are put in Group 3? Haven't the other eight played Cyprus Cup before?

    Poor Northern Ireland...

Russia played last year, France did not, so if anything, France should be in Group 3...

Perhaps it is a mistake and it is actually Ireland who will play?

You're right - they played in 2009 (as did France). France finished higher in that tournament than Russia, so perhaps this is why Russia was 'relegated' to Group 3.

I think the Dutch FA and the Scottish FA also organise the tournament along with the English FA.

South Africa were meant to be competing - I don't know what happened to them.

Yes Dutch and Scotland FA are also co-organiser but the England FA has a certain amount of power and control. For example in 2009, teams were supposed to video and exchange every game with other teams but England decided not to do that and give the videos at the end of the tournament, also teams were supposed to keep the same shirt number for the whole tournament as per the rules but England just decided not to follow the rule...

Cyprus dont have a women`s NT at the moment , a bit surprising since Cyprus club Apollon did well in Women`s Champions league.

Apollon have only got 1 Cypriot in the starting XI, though.

They also were asked to play a friendly match against Poland just last year, but as Cyprus didn't have a regular national team, Poland played against Cyprus' U-19 WNT. The score was not too bad for Cyprus - a respectable 0-3.

Any news on regard of the Mexican National Team playing at the Cyprus Cup?
I just read in a Mexican newspaper that they are getting ready to travel to Europe to take part of the event and thanks to your posts, I can see that Mexico is not on the list of participants.

No news on the site yet, but it seems North Korea may have withdrawn, so Mexico would replace them.

Mexico confirmed as replacing North Korea.

Still no fixtures up - they still have last year's results showing in the fixtures/results section.

    Some rosters:
    England http://thefa.com/England/womens-seniors/News/2011/CyprusCup2011
    South Korea http://www.kfa.or.kr/eng_renew/koreateam/km_player_list.asp?k_team_type=5
    Scotland http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/scottish_fa_news.cfm?page=128&newsCategoryID=6&newsID=7264

Canada is leaving for Cyprus tomorrow. They will have to make some adjustments to their roster as they have officially 25 players in Rome and at least one other will be added, Bry McCarthy of WVU http://msnsportsnet.com/page.cfm?cat=netnews&story=18141

Well, the rosters of Canada and the other teams in their group have been posted http://canadasoccer.com/tourney/FIFA_WWC/national.asp?Press_ID=4674 and I counted 26 players for Canada. Morace likes large rosters. All the other rosters differ in the number of players from one another.

By the way, the information about Bry McCarthy is wrong. She's a 91 not a 93 and played for the U-20s last year not the U-17s.

Filigno is listed as a midfielder.

According to a post on womenssoccerunited Canada will play a training match against Korea Feb. 26. http://www.womenssoccerunited.com/group/cypruswomenscup If they've just agreed to this I guess they're not boycotting this game!

Katie Chapman isn't listed either. I would imagine there are injury issues, but I couldn't confirm that anywhere.

Chapman has two young children to take care of and has been away from home for a while with ARSENAL in Turkey.

Not part of the Cyprus Cup but Canada beat Korea 2-1 in an unofficial match. Canadian goals by Sinclair and Kyle. It's important that Kyle score because she's had good chances lately and has yet to score an international goal at the senior level.
