Thad's pictures from the World Cup bid visit show a mocked-up overhead shot too, Google Earth style. (The poster that Ficklin & the bid committee guy are standing in front of in the fourth picture.)

I would hope that all of those are available for viewing at tomorrow's event.

I removed it. I should not have posted the photo yet. Sorry...

I was asked to remove the photo because it is an old rendering. They do not want that to be shown.

I believe anyone going to the STH event tomorrow will probably get to see the new versions.

If I get a hold of them and get permission, I will show them.

The other views (not close up) are still in the gallery.

why would they show it to the committee guy if it's an old rendering?

Sorry for the thread jack, but well done on those WC KC pictures and blog entry. Very cool to get a look behind the scenes. Looks like we have a well organized committee doing some good work.

They needed a rendering to show to a politician recently. They used that to show the WC Bid guy because it was better than showing nothing. They may have explained to him that it was not current and I not heard it, I do not know.

Even if it has changed, it is probably representative of the final look. The bid guy will not care if the design changes, the fans will notice every detail that changes and x% will love that change and y% will hate that change and complain for years.

I will try to get a copy or photo of the new rendering for the people who do not make it to the STH event.

    Thank you.

I agree about the committee. They seem to have their act together. I have never been around a World Cup/Sporting event bid process but I have been involved in really large business projects that were not as well thought out.

I think a lot of this is due to David Ficklin. He has experience with bids like this and has his act together. He is a smart but quiet guy who seems to be a little shy of the spotlight but in my opinion is the guy who will make all this happen.

Quiet? Clearly, you don't work with him.

We'll have approximately 6 views of the interior and exterior from the working computer model at the season ticket holder event tomorrow. these aren't "pretty" renderings but should give you a good sense for how the design is progressing. i'm sure we'll figure some way to put these on the blog to get your feedback. i'll try to answer any questions tomorrow at the event about the design, process, team, taco bueno condiment bar (i do read this stuff), etc.

i'm interested in seeing what you think of the cauldron club....rh

i won't be at the event at the training facility (i'll be in lot d at arrowhead), but i was hoping you could address future dates we should be aware of now. like with the bannister project, we knew that some committee was meeting on a certain date and it was a specific obstacle to overcome... and that would lead to the next obstacle for another board to make a vote on the project on a specific day as well. with this new project being so-called "fast-tracked," are there specific dates of importance to getting a final plan done of which we can be aware?

this'll prolly be more of a question about the pub, but, in general, are the wizards still going to have their own beer? just thought i'd ask that, because for the record, i quite liked it ... and i haven't heard anything about it for a year or so.

There are no definitive dates associated with the KS process. It's a "review and respond" process that we've been working on with them for about 30 days now. We talk with them daily at this point.

Probably saying more than I should, but if you don't see trucks moving dirt on the site by the end of the year, we're behind schedule.

as far as drop kick ale goes, it's on sale in stores today. i'll have sam post the stores in which it's being sold. when the new stadium opens, it'll be available everywhere there, along with hopefully a couple new ones by then.

I agree, I prefer to stay at home and cook it if not in Mexico. I've been continually disappointed since the outstanding Mexican place at Ameristar Casino (then Station) closed years ago. Just the incredible Salsa Bar was a good reason to go there, much less the authentic food. I've had people recommend Abuelo's both for drink and comidas. Haven't made it out there yet.

In other lesser developments. all the grocery stores locally to me have discontinued Asadero chese from Cacique (sp?) brand. Anyone have any suggestions about what non-canned white cheese melts properly into a base white-sauce? Velveeta just isn't cutting it in my world.

Anyway, for a dollar though and, of course, not having to cook or wash, there are some reasonably tasty things at T-Bueno!

I had full confidence of that...be shocked if it wasn't. My point was more about the road to get there seems at the very least limited by the location not being in the cities' population center or anywhere close to it.

I hope it sells out every week for a decade so the expand decision is made easily. I'd love to not have responsibilities so I could buy a ridiculous gameday vehicle painted begrudgingly metalic flake cobalt with a detatchable foosball table, hottub on a trailer, stocked wet bar, grill, things I have not thought of just yet, and an open keg for the boys every week, but sadly that isn't my life and I'm suddenly an hour away more or less permanently instead of a few years. From Blue Springs, it isn't radically different than driving to Arrowhead from Topeka.

Putting my minor disappointment aside, it's just tough to see how expansion happens exactly. Even if the economy - rumored to be rebounding - continues positively, gas remains almost buyable, and the team gets better; it's a pretty big ask, really.

Track record of other MLS teams isn't great either. The new digs open and everything is understandably in Honeymoon Mode. Flash forward two years and there are real issues at all the suburbia stadia. The upside is a shorter drive for the River Rats, I guess...so, good for them.

It's actually sold inside the stadium. The red barn looking thing behind the Cauldron is selling it.

I've got a sick feeling OG knows they can't start until Nov-Dec, and they desperately want a stadium open for a full slate in 2011, so they're simplifying the design to accommodate a shorter construction schedule.

You can't see it from that perspective, but the Cauldron is indeed covered. It's just a much lower roof. Check www.backpost.net.

Check the last rendering on Thad's site, the roof is there. And as Thad mentioned in the other thread, these are apparently still working models...

yep. ongoal's gonna need to decide if they want it done now or done right. only one way is going to get them their "best facility in the league."

At first glance, it looks like they stuck Rio Tinto's roof on the HDC. :D As long as the majority of the seats are covered from the weather, I am a happy handsitter. :) Anybody at the event last night that can give any more details other than what Thad has posted....please fill us in.

I don't understand how you feel a change in location means they still can't have the "best facility in the league"?

If it's not going to help keep sound in, or keep people dry, save the money from putting a roof on at all. I don't care if the Cauldron or the stands are covered if it's just decorative. I don't like Colorado's useless roof or the HDC's. Save the money.

I assume it's less about the change in location than about the time line. If the object is to get it up and running for the 2011 season, then they may need to dial-back that design some. But if the object is to create the "best facility in the league", that may take more time and not be feasible for a 2011 opening. Just an assumption based on his posting.
