The Happening A bit disappointing as I've like M. Night's work so far to one degree or another. This was just OK ...
Perhaps the worst movie I've ever seen. Glad to see you thought it was "just OK". At least someone enjoyed it a bit!
A Few Good Men Sorkin at his best. Big Jack chewing through his screenplay. And regardless of what others think of Cruise, I thought he did pretty well in this. "And the hits just keep onnnnn coming..." Suspect Not very good. But, Cher never once looked anything remotely close to trashy in the movie and she was all the more hotter for it.
I guess I was trying to look at its deeper meaning and the whole human-impact on the environment. Shyamalan's work (namely this one, Signs, and LitW) tends to have convenient coincidence between the characters within the group, and it wouldn't be much of a story without those coincidences. Was a bit "meh" about the ending, but then I thought if it could happen in one centralized location, why couldn't it happen elsewhere. Did M. Night make a cameo? I can't say I recall seeing him. That's what she said.
I don't know it just seems like there wasn't anything happening in The Happening. From a scientific perspective it didn't make any sense either. I mean I just didn't find it entertaining at all. This is my type of genre too so I was really expecting to like this when I first saw it.
Sure there was ... it was proven that the area around Philadelphia can be pretty breezy at times. The Shawshank Redemption One of my all time faves ... 'nuff said.
I havent watched a movie in like three weeks because I started watching the 1st season of Lost and want to do nothing but watch that. It is probably the most addicting show ever. I have only been watching for like three weeks and am pretty much done with season 2 already. That's like 2 episodes a day.
I thought the Happening was a good concept for a movie but it was very poor execution. The acting was on par with porn movies. It was terrible. Zooey and Wahlburg are much more capable than that.
hmm..I actually thought the execution was the good part of "the happening". Some masterful scenes. Great B movie fun. People go into films with completely wrong ideas and expectations, especially 'auteurs' and I put it in quote because I don't want Demosthenes to come hound me because I used the term.
Yes. If that is the name of the guy on the phone. Been awhile since I saw it. It is in the credits. Cameo? I guess.
The Killing Fields. It's been years since I last watched this movie. The scene where they're in the closet, trying to develop a photo of pran for a faked passport still gets to me. And then his goodbye ... geez. === I have a very random question. I have a movie scene, possibly poster stuck in my head. From what I recall, it was set in Southeast Asia somewhere, maybe Cambodia, maybe Vietnam. I distinctly remember a white woman with dark/black hair walking through a rice field, complete with little hat like the natives wear. And I could have sworn it had something to do with Cambodia or the killing fields, but I'm not certain. If it wasn't set at the exact time as the killing fields, then possibly it had to do with someone going back and seeing the aftermath? Aid worker maybe? I would put the release date in the 80s, possibly early 90s. I've browsed movie titles from the 1980s and I cannot find it anywhere. I'd thought maybe at one time it may have been a 'better' film. Maybe acclaimed, somehow, somewhere? Then again, maybe I'm going crazy. I'd appreciate any and all possibilities. ETA: I don't know if it's Indochine or not. Possibly.
Inside. So I watched this movie based on last thread's recommendation and a mention that this was similiar to The Descent. It was not. This movie is so damn disturbing and I usually like these kind of movies. But damn, so bloody and so gory. The Descent was much better in my opinion, much better.
I said it was similar to The Descent that it goes about its scares methodically not cheaply like most horror films. It took its time. The early scene in the living room - the 2 minute slow zoom shot is a fantastic example of that. I also didn't mind the blood and gore because it never felt like it was for its own sake but also symbolic of one of the film's central themes about birth.
Step Brothers: I made it about 15 minutes without a laugh. Utter garbage. Eagle Eye: there was a cool concept here. Lots of action, lots of running. Totally implausible. Way, way too elaborate of a plot for a computer.
