I got a friend that works out at Premier at Sawmill (Formally Sawmill Athletic) off of Bethel Rd. and he has seen the players over there quite a bit this off season.
I saw Ekpo and Nyazamba working out at Brothers last night. I swear it was them. Nyazamba was working for a hot blonde's number.
Well, I have my normal gym and my apartment gym. Sometimes late at night I'll work out at the apartment gym just to get something in although it's not as nice. I'm sure they have fitness and weightlifting sessions with the team as well. I doubt the team trusts them enough to do it all on their own time.
What about the guys who don't live in Cbus? I'd guess they're given a regiment to follow during the offseason, set up by the team/trainer/whomever, and are on their own.
Crew prediction and review here by Jeff Bull. In a nutshell he says Crew will win MLS Cup but nothing else: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/blog.php?b=4166
Don't know if it has cursed the team or not, but on the MLS Preview show last night, Max Bretos predicted a repeat of the Cup for the Crew over San Jose, but "with the Crew just edging out Toronto", or something to that effect. Also, he said that Javier Morales was his vote for MVP last year
I had to turn it off last night. seams to me it was a love fest on the western conference and oh yeah there are some teams in the East. Bretos is a first (or last) class Jackass.
I'm pretty sure San Jose and Toronto will not be anywhere close to the final. Too many new faces every year. Max Bretos is just a guy impressed with new names.
Uhhh that's 'SEEMS'... unless that's freudian and you were thinking 'seamy' about Bretos.. All one needs to know about Bretos from his wiki Surely FSC should have cause...
after about 5 mins of listening to him the brain sort of fogs over and all the words and spelling runs amok. WWE..... how come that doesn't surprise me
Looks like the Azteca team is planning for a good game on Saturday acccording to their BS thread: Re: Austin Aztex FC Vs. Columbus Crew 3/14/2009
According to Mitchell looks like the Crew will be playing my Dad's and Brother's team. http://blog.dispatch.com/crew/2009/03/t_for_texas.shtml It looks like the Crew is training at the school which is a good choice it was the training camp for the Dallas Cowboys at one time. Go Hilltoppers. Update Looks like the Crew reserve team did a good job on the Hilltoppers. http://blackandgoldstandard.com/?p=1185
Went the full 90 in that reserve match. Poor dude can't seem to catch a break, tho. Also, the star player of that reserve match was Tom Heinemann. Found some info on him - he's a 6'4", 180lb forward at Rockhurst University, and should be a senior this coming season. http://www.rockhurst.edu/ru_athletics/m_varsity/soccer/roster/tomheinemann.asp
If, as Shawn says is likely, so sign Brunner, and for some sort of (conditional) draft pick, it'll be a substantial coup for Robert & Co. Doesn't replace the frustration over Noonan's dumbass injury, still, to pick up a '08 first rounder at a position where we need depth is brilliant.
Here's some video from last year's Great Lakes Valley Conference (D2) championship. Heinemann scored the first goal, about 45 seconds into the video. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTTOOL97ap8"]YouTube - Rockhurst University wins GLVC Mens' Soccer[/ame] He scored 10 goals and 5 assists in 19 games last season. Made first team All-Conference, and first team All-Region. As a sophomore, he made 2nd team All-American. In the PDL last year (St. Louis Lions), he scored 13 goals in 15 games (good for 4th in the PDL, and 2 goals off the pacesetter), and he's been the leading scorer for St. Louis for 3 straight years. Yes, that's a better PDL record than Zakuani. This kid might have a chance as a pro.
Good news about Brunner.. hope it turns out this time. Whatta soap opera.. it's like Szetela all over again, sorta.. And the Heinemann performance is great news for our squad, hoping it's not a 'singularity' on his part. Re: other items from Shawn's blog... why didnt the Crew asked about the Aztec's field playing surface, before making the trip?
I bet the first team does not play Saturday if its Asro turf. Too much risk of injury especially if Rogers has an hamstring pull: http://blog.dispatch.com/crew/2009/03/crew_reserves_4_st_edwards_uni.shtml
Anyone else see that Lenhart got tossed again? From Mitchell's blog, it sounds like the other player saw red as well. I kind of like having a guy who gets that fired up in a reserve match for the preseason.
