I wondered why - out of the clear blue sky - I got a mail offer for Playboy at a rate of $12/year. Plus some extras. I figured they had to be tanking if they were practically giving it away to someone who has never subscribed to anything they publish. 'Course at THAT price...nah...the Intertubez are WAY easier and cheaper.
I'm tellin' ya...Tripp Mickle. I mean, COME ON. That can't be serious. It would be way more productive to work on ways of getting the Killers to play CCS (except for most of that shit from Sam's Town - though some of it grew on me). Mormon alt-rock that sounds suspiciously of New Order at times!! Hooray!
Why don't the Aston Villa boys (Lerner & Friedel) just buy the Crew. http://www.soccer365.com/us_news/story_29908201049.php Seems like it would be a competent dou to orchestrate development of soccer in Ohio.
Mitchell's blog on the topic I'm sure Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns v1.0, Charlotte Hornets, Quebec Nordiques and even San Jose Earthquakes v1.0 fans thought it could never happen to them, too. I have a hard time seeing how an investment group wanting a team trying to buy a team in a market the league appears to dislike is overreaction. Vegas Strips. Starting play in 2010.
But seriously, why limit ourselves? Why does it have to be just local ownership and not a foreign investor? I KNOW that GK coach has that oil link up from back home. The potential local owner or two that might have thought about budging on buying wor team are probably scrambling to their portfolios and other interests in this current economic climate.
I think that the Vegas people are buying in now and waiting for issue 6 to pass then build a casino that attaches to crew stadium and then put a roof on crew stadium.
Um, I got some bad news people. I just got off the phone with a member of another MLS team's Front Office with whom I've established a good working relationship over the years. He told me that based on what he's hearing around the league, we need to be taking this very seriously. Starting tomorrow, I'm going to be banging on every door that I can at the Greater Columbus Sports Commission trying to get them involved in working to keep the team here in Ohio. I'm also going to be writing actual letters to every pro sports owner in the state asking them to become involved with this as well. I know we've been teetering back and forth between anger and disbelief on this board today, but we need to start to realize that this is real and it's serious and it's going to happen. So it pretty much falls to us to see if we can put enough pressure on the right people as well as get this out there and publicized that maybe, just maybe, we can make something happen and stave off the death of something that we all love and cherish.
Surprisingly Mitchell's blog doesn't downplay the possibility more. Unless I'm reading it wrong. It's like the feeling I got listening to Tressel in the Press Conference after the USC game where even though he didn't say it, you knew he wasn't happy with Boeckman (sp?) and Pryor was going to, at least, take a majority of the snaps in the next game. And despite making the argument earlier that it could happen, I wasn't actually in the camp that may have thought a move was imminent (I'm still not there).
Well fcuk, just after I said I still don't think it's going to happen, and I've just been arguing about the possibility of it happening. FCUKITY FCUKITY FCUK FCUK Whatshisface who was a Crew fan and now works for Chicago?
Well, I've been job shopping and if they Crew leaves, that's one less reason for me to stick around Columbus if I get an offer elsewhere. *assuming the worst happens that is*
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but should we be taking this very seriously from a perspective that they are definetly buying an interest (perhaps a controlling interest), or that there is some motive to actually pack up the team and move them?
I've been asked not to reveal who of which FO told me this. I can tell you that based on what he told me I called a Friend I have in a different FO and he told me about the same thing. You all know me. I'm not one to go into histrionics. This is real, kids.
They want the team in Vegas. There's no doubt in the mind of anyone that I've talked to on the subject tonight.
Maybe a thread should be started with ideas or some sort of a plan in which people can help with or aid others.
THAT IS COMPLETE BULL!!! If the Crew goes to Vegas I'm completely DONE with the MLS! How could they take something away from us right when things are getting better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I for one will do anything to keep the Crew here, patition, money (what little I have), ANYTHING!!! THIS IS OUR CREW!!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea what I could do to help contribute to the effort, but I will do anything within my power to help guys. We need to rally as much support as we can as quickly as we can to try to counteract this thing. I went through this garbage with the Browns 10 years ago, and I DO NOT want to see this happen to my Crew!
Yep, and now the NFL means very little to me other than wanting OSU players to do well. I'd almost root for Baltimore if Smith were starting QB for them.
