Default Re: Semi-official 2008 San Jose Earthquakes roster thread

Marko Merlin is probably Marko Muslin (he was recently on trial at Chivas - his name has also been Marko Murlin in some box scores). He is a 22 year old French central defender/d-mid - 6'1", 170 lbs - former teams/stats include:

* 2006-2007 SK Lierse (Belgium 1st Division) - 26 games, 1 goal
* 2005-2006 Willem II (Dutch 1st Division) - 5 games, 0 goals
* 2005 - 2006 Monaco B (French 2nd Division) - 15 games, 0 goals
* 2005 - 2006 Monaco (French 1st Division) - 1 game, 0 goals
* 2004 - 2005 Monaco (French 1st Division) - 1 game, 0 goals
* 2004 - 2005 Monaco B (French 2nd Division) - 31 games, 1 goal
He also spent time in youth systems at Nice (France) and Red Star Belgrade (Serbia).

Federico "The Torpedo" Arias is a 5'8" 170 lbs. 28 year old Argentine forward/winger whose clubs include Rosario Central (Argentina - 1st Division), Velez Sarsfield (Argentina - 1st Division), Southampton (England - Premier League), Velez again, Quilmes (Argentina - 1st Division), Belgrano de Cordoba (Argentina - 2nd Division) , Sporting Cristal (Peru - 1st Division), Coronel Bolognesi (Peru - 1st Division) and most recently Martina (Italy - 2nd Division). He is not much of a goal scorer for a forward so I would guess that out of the two Argentines identified by Doyle - Arias is not the outright striker but he is the other player (one who can play forward as well as outside midfielder).

Here is some info on Arias when Southampton bought him:
