Re: Preseason vs. Houston: Gameday part 2
The field was a bit like playing on a wet basketball court. A lot of slipping by players and the ball bouncing pretty high. It seemed like the veterans adjusted their approach better. Corrales is a going to turn out to be a bargain for what he cost us. Garcia, Graham, and Corrales did well in the middle and I think frustrated the Dynamo who got a tougher game then I think they expected, which is perhaps why they were so short tempered.
The Dynamo actually went a long way tonight toward getting the Quakes fans to forget they played here and dislike them enough to sow the seeds of good rivalry. Ching, Mulrooney, and DeRo all got soundly booed for various transgressions. It was sort of funny too that the Dynamo's #1 tactic against our speed was obstruction, which the ref failed to call no matter if the ball as 10 or more yards away.
Our defense was pretty good all game long. Mistakes were almost always field related... mis-kicks from slipping particularly.
Grabovoy and Vide both were sort of disappointing which hurt the offense, but Ramiro and the mystery man 24 did pretty well. And we will have potential to be dangerous on both wings once the backs and mids get on the same page.
Unless the Dynamo are capable of ramping it up pretty fast, they may get creamed in Hawaii. Oh, and several of the creamsicles did look like they put on a few pounds. With a few exceptions like Rico, it rather was a team of heavy slow guys who threw their weight around against skinny fast guys that tried to get around them before they would get pushed over.
