So, even though Roma had been making it known that it valued Chivu at 15-18 million Euros, they only ended up getting 11-12 million Euros for him. Nice negotiating strategy.
Hmm, I don't know what the real story is here. Il Romanista's website initially said that Inter had paid 12 million Euros for Chivu (just like romanews.eu said). But then, ten minutes later, they changed the headline and story to say that Roma had bought the other half of Pizarro's contract for a little under 6.5 million Euros and that negotiations for Chivu would continue tomorrow at a price of around 14 million Euros. That's what their front page (below) says, too. Because AS Roma, S.p.a. is a publicly traded company, they can't put any transfer news on their website until the transfer market has officially opened and the deal is finalized. But there's nothing on Inter's website, either, and Inter is not publicly traded.

Oh, yeah: as Il Romanista's front page indicates, Roma acquired 28-year-old winger Mauro Esposito from Cagliari in exchange for Curci (on loan, presumably) and midfielder Daniele Galloppa (who was on loan to Siena this past season). Roma will also receive in the deal Cagliari goalie Antonio Chimenti, making his triumphant return to Roma!

I imagine that Spalletti sees Esposito as a backup to Taddei and/or Mancini, and I wonder what this means for Wilhelmsson. Also, it's interesting to note that earlier in the day Esposito had said earlier in the day that he knew Roma was after him but that he really wanted to go to Napoli! From this and the Suazo affair, it seems that Cagliari doesn't care where its players want to go; it just sells them to the highest bidder! (It would be nice if Roma had taken that approach and created a bidding war for Chivu.)
