IF it's the initiative we were briefed about in Florida two weeks ago, I think a lot of you folks are going to be happy. It'll address a lot of concerns that a lot of you have had over the years. Of course, that'll give you fewer things to gripe about, but you'll have to soldier on. (BTW, the conference call will supposedly be carried on MLSnet.com.)
Since we only have a few precious hours to spread bogus rumors, I overheard a conversation in a noisy bar that MLS is going single table.
This thread is going to get f'ugly. So let's address this now: From the 2 Bundesliga-MLS partnership threads...
I know it's baseless speculation, but... I'd have to think that part of the announcement would involve details about the qualifying for SuperLiga 2008 and maybe other tournaments (Sudamericana, Pan-Pacific). It would make sense IMHO to setup the details before the season begins regarding this kind of stuff.
I believe that should be part of it, yes. And, again, it'll please those of you who've been foaming at the mouth about how SuperLiga 2007 was set up.
I'm not sure if we should be offended at the cheap joke at rape victims, or if that's some botanist's idea of humor.
During halftime of the USA-Ecuador match, Wynalda said approvingly that MLS was going to be "cutting the grass the same way in every stadium"...uh, yay? Also, he said there was going to be an MLS anthem. At first I thought the EPL anthem was cheesy, but now I like it and I like the idea. Naturally, I have absolutely no faith that MLS can produce something that won't be horribly embarrassing. We've seen this before: Ugh, now my monitor is melting.
Goals! Goals! Goals! is not an anthem. I wouldn't worry about it. That was the winner in a contest for a cheer/song.
Maybe announcing a variety of things.. A) San Jose 14th team, (re)joins league in 2008 B) A set in stone list of how teams qualify for CONCACAF Champions Cup/SuperLiga/The Proposed Pan Asian Tournament C) 2009 Expansion to 16 teams? D) Conference Finals to be two-leg, total goals series? or more amusingly 1) Any opposing player within 10 feet of David Beckham will be immediately red-carded.
Or perhaps other specific expansion plans (Philly, St. Louis, Phoenix, whatever) for 2008 or (more likely) 2009? Though San Jose returning, given all the info out on it, seems like a likely subject for news offering next week.
I think future expansion plans that aren't about San Jose are not far enough along to be announced Monday. So don't get your hopes up.
Speculation: 1) Theme song was co-written by Yanni and John Tesh. I ****ing can't wait 2) Single Table? pffffff, how about 6 division? That is what I'm talkin' about. 3) An announcement that Landon Donovan is, in fact, an elf. 4) Also at the announcement will be Johnathan Kraft whom will have a t-shirt on which reads "We Hate Fans - Give Us More Allocations" 5) Yes, Freddy Adu is 25 6) The Qualifications for SuperLiga will be determined by the teams with best record on Thursday nights when the temperature is above 80 degrees fanrenheit, but before a lunar eclipse. 7) krayzie is actually Sunil Gulatti 8) this post sucks
