Will Birgit Prinz sign with Perugia ?

Quote:

LUCIANO GAUCCI, the Perugia president, has finally decided which woman he wants to become the first female player in Serie A: Birgit Prinz, one of Germany’s World Cup-winning squad. “We met last week in Rome,” Gaucci said yesterday. “Next week, we’ll define the details of the agreement.” http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article...926201,00.html

Nothing but a cheap publicity stunt. She wouldn't last two seconds on the ball with their reserve team, but it's the signing that brings the attention to Perugia, not her actually playing. If this travesty does happen, it'll be a sad day. And just imagine her losing the ball and trying to play defense! Pathetic.

Not gonna happen, unless Gaucci wants to throw a ridiculous sum of money at her. Hanna Ljungberg and Victoria Svensson already turned him down, what makes him think Prinz will do any different?

In all seriousness... she doesn't have a EU passport. Italian clubs can only sign one new non-EU player per year. Perugia used theirs on Gadhafi.

The 3 qualities Gaucci looks for in a female player for his team are:

Gaucci made few comments, saying only that Prinz “is very beautiful and has a great figure. I can assure you that as a player, she’s very good.

I have a lot of respect on how far womens football has come, and in some cases, plain admire some of their abilities. I'm an admirer of Maren Meinert's creativity up front for example.
However, in all fairness I don't think any woman player at this point will make an impact at the highest level.
Pace is an obvious reason why. If u see a top level mens match and a top level womens match, the pace of the game is just totally different.
Another is technique. The women players nowadays lack the technique to keep up. In The Womens World Cup even the top team (Germany) made a lot of silly amatuer-like mistakes in terms of technique. Also physique. The female players aren't strong enough to survive in a men's top league. Sure maybe some of the women players are bigger than some of the male stars we know, but in terms of strength comparison, the guy usually comes out surprisingly stronger simply because of testosterone.
Prinz shouldn't go to Perugia. She will not make it at that level and should stick to top level womens football where she can continue to score goals and amuse spectators and bring smiles to fans.
