Magath thread
where we can discuss our managers very successful first season...
hats of to this guy, really... people said he could not win titles and was just suited to getting the best out of average players/teams... well hes proved his detractors wrong, and how!!! voice your thoughts on him here, but i think this first little paragraph from the preview to this weekends match on the FC Bayern website says it all for me!!! im very satisfied with what im seeing under felix.. what a change from just one year ago!!! and not just in terms of team performance and results, but specific player performances as well... almost every one of our players except makaay had an off-year last year... this year, everybodys been on fire... i wont blame hitzfeld for what happened cos i admire and respect the man hugely... but there was definitely a motivational issue during his last year and im sorr to say but at the end of the day, i was quite relieved to see his back :o Reds seek to maintain form Almost exactly 12 months have passed since Bayern travelled to Stuttgart on 15 May 2004 for the penultimate game of last season. Then coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and his men had just suffered the pain of losing their league title to Werder Bremen, but there was to be no rehabilitation against the Reds' southern rivals as VfB under then boss Felix Magath ran up a convincing 3-1 success. A cloud of gloom settled over the Säbener Strasse as Bayern contemplated the prospect of losing a direct Champions League qualifying place to Stuttgart. |

First, I have to say I agree with your Magath sentiments. However, I want to see what happens when Magath has to deal with the injury problems and other problems Hitzfeld had to deal last season. On Hitzfeld. I think he was the victim of Werder Bremen's dream season than anything. Also. Magath didn't have to deal with Ballack missing for the stretches of time Hitzfeld did. Magath didn't have to deal with Deisler's mental problems as Hitzfeld. Magath didn't have to deal with the injuries that Hitzfeld did. Magath didn't have to deal with a slumping Oliver Kahn as Hitzfeld did. Remember, Hitzfeld didn't have a Lucio and a Frings to plug in when guys got hurt or didn't perform. Hitzfeld was the one who introduced Bastian Schweinsteiger when Uli Hoeness wanted to buy another player. Magath is a WONDERFUL trainer. I'm happy he finally shut the critics up. However, Hitzfeld had much more to deal with than "motivational issues" last season. And had Werder Bremen not had a "dream season" Bayern's point total of last season was usually good enough for a BL title..... I have the utmost respect for BOTH men and don't blame Hitzfeld for last season just as you don't. |
Re: Magath thread
I dont see a real weakness Magath should have. Plus his character is quite sympathic, too. I like that he is also concerned for the NT, not only a stubborn club-coach. And he also is doing quite well in delivering and developing players for Klinsi.:)
@footyfan Regarding the injuries. Those are also lying to some extend within the responsibility of the coach. Hitzfeld was quite famous for producing many injured players in Dortmund while he was there. I still remember that. I think Magath knows training and body-fitness so well, that he is able to prevent injuries from happening. |

Re: Magath thread
Damn you scorpio!!!!!!!!!!! HAHA...I was going to start the same thread and call it "Magath's first season at FCB" but I guess you were the quicker..heh.
Anyways, agree with what you said...but Magath really had a lot of things go his way this season, despite Makaay's injury earlier this year there was nothing major that really hurt Bayern's chances anywhere. I still appreciate his discipline, I think it had a lot to do with our winning the league so early. I want to see what he is going to do about our defensive problem (Bayern defensive problem? I know right!?) Because I really think if we tweak that up we'll be good to get to the CL final next season. |
Re: Magath thread
hehe - quite late there, sirmanc! :D
anyways, regarding magath and hitzfeld - i agree magath didnt have as many injury problems as hitzfeld did, but then he also had quite a long period of time without a proper RB when both goerlitz and sagnol were out/unfit... have to give credit where its due, and magaths training methods, discipline and pre-season preparation have all helped immensely this season, where hitzfeld could have done better by planning for the length of the season... needless to say, we can all look forward to a great future under felix, and look back on a hugely successful time with ottmar... anyways, this thread is not about a comparision between the two managers, but for people to voice their thoughts on our current head coach ;) onto the Cup Final and a chance to break out woeful recent record vs schalke :p |
Re: Magath thread
Magath article
The coach will have enjoyed the part of Karl-Heinz Rummenigge's post-banquet speech addressed to him personally. "Dear Felix, I remember our first conversations in February 2004 when we discussed you coming to Bayern. I'll never forget what you said: 'I want to come to Bayern. I want to win the title, I want to win the Cup, and I want to be successful in the Champions League.' We've won the title, we've won the Cup, and we looked good in the Champions League. That's largely down to you, and I'd like to thank you from the bottom of my heart." |
Re: Magath thread
Magath has put his permanent imprint on the Bavarian Giants and now he will only add to Bundesliga lore.
Love the German Cup.....NOW THAT IS SOMETHING YOU CAN REALLY DRINK FROM!!! LOL> |
