For those not familiar with the setup in Scotland, there are 4 leagues, Premier, 1st, 2nd & 3rd divisions. Below this, there are other 'senior' leagues. Some of these teams are allowed to enter the Scottish Cup, including all of the Highland League teams. The Highland League is confined to teams from the North of Scotland and is the strongest 'Level 5' league. The East of Scotland League is confined to teams from around Edinburgh and from the Scottish Borders. The South of Scotland league is confined to teams from the county of Dumfries & Galloway. It is the weakest of the 3 leagues. The best teams from the South of Scotland league sometimes join the East of Scotland league for more competition, where they have to start from the 1st Division. Annan Athletic and Dalbeattie Star are two such teams, both of which have made it to the Premier Division. Threave Rovers also played in the East of Scotland League for a few seasons, reaching the Premier Division, but are not back in the South of Scotland League because of spiralling travelling expenses.
