There's a rumor that they might be going for American World Cup TV rights after next year.

This is great news. I see a slow evolution (I hope). I'm sure that Aussie Rules and Rugby Football will be given ample time.

Does this replace FSW or is it in addition to?

Read the article. It's a rebranding of Fox Sports World. It is not an additional channel.

My bad, after a cup of coffee it's obvious. This works for me, I added the sports package just to get FSW and soccer is all I watch there.

Now I got a reason to watch the Super Bowl pre-game.

IIRC, they're trotting out the Freddy and Mia show for that preview. Make sure the treble on your sound systems is way down low. The kids may break glass on this one.

It looks to be about 90% what already exists on FSW. But still, it is more of a good thing, a base from which to grow and a commitment to the American soccer scene. I'm looking forward to the show on the amatuer scene.

I think that there'll still be some rugby and Aussie rules shown, but stuff like cricket, darts and F1 racing will be dropped altogether.

Pehaps the channel will also pick up broadcasts of one or two additional soccer leagues. I suppose we'll have to wait and see. ;)

Will it be the first-ever English-language soccer-dedicated channel in the U.S.?

    GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!!

I'm hearing rugby will be gone after this summer. And that sucks. How many more Ligue 1 reruns do we need?

    I hope not.

I'm wondering if Fox Soccer Channel has a surprise or two up its sleeve, such as live coverage of additional soccer leagues to be added to its lineup.

I personally think rugby is booooooring, but, if you read to the end of the article it says "Coverage of soccer-related sports such as futsal (indoor soccer) and rugby will also receive time on the channel."

    Good for you.

Anybody looking for a preview of the channel can watch the crystal palace v bolton game on now, 11:00pm 2/6/05. I don't like the starting XI graphics but can't complain other than that....

The graphics are very spiffy, though I do agree that there's something that detracts from the starting lineups. Aside from the, very nice.
