More English Football in the US

Quote:

Included in the deal with the FA are rights to England's home qualifiers for the 2006 World Cup and the 2008 European Championship. Nic Coward, the FA's director of corporate and legal affairs, said the agreement was "an attempt to turn England into America's second team.''

Do they seriously think that the US fans would accept England as one of their own?

Discuss.

The games are on FSW, so it isn't like they are available in every household. I like the deal because it means I can watch more soccer, and I enjoy watching the EPL, but it isn't like I am going to become an England fan or anything. I don't think this deal will affect what national team people support. Sadly, there are many Americans who support national teams that aren't the USA, but it isn't because other teams are on television. USA games are easier to find on TV then national team games for any other team. Mexico games are also easy to find but they are on Spanish langage channels which people don't watch unless they speak Spanish. Mexico isn't attracting fans who aren't of Mexican decent. USA games are on ESPN2 and many sports fans watch ESPN2 and it is available in many households. FSW isn't available in as many households.

I don't plan on becoming a plastic england supporter, but I'm glad I can watch the games now. Should be nice..

If they're lucky England could be America's third team. There's absolutely no way they'll catch the indigenous support that Mexico gets.

Believe me, after witnessing first hand, the 40,000 American "Man U" gloryhunters at the L.A. Coliseum during their match against Club America last year, I have no doubts, Americans would be more interested in backing the English national team rather than their own rag-tag national team.

Never have I seen such blatant display of foolishness in witnessing Americans buying Manchester kits from street vendors like crazy before and after the match. It was madness. Me and a couple of my buddies asked obvious questions to some of these fools. We kept asking where in England they were from. :D

I would have gained some admiration for American fans had the stadium NOT been a sea of red and most were wearing just civilian attire.

Keep thinking speed skating is cool...Our ragtag national team drew with yours in 2002 on your home soil. We would have put up 4 on Korea if that was here. See you in Germany.

Wow, another post about America from Soju Gorae. Your inferiority complex is even more apparent than your slanted eyes.
