MLS Cup Preview

Posted Yesterday at 09:10 PM by Dan Loney (Dan Loney Blog)
Updated Yesterday at 09:24 PM by Dan Loney (Okay, now I'm ready to post it)

So. On Sunday we will see MLS Cup set, hopefully, another viewership record, thanks to the star power of the Galaxy.

Wow, it's only been four years. Feels like four hundred. But now, the Galaxy are back. And, as far as anyone in the mainstream knows or cares, is better than ever. Let's see, how does that speech go?

The Galaxy, whom I consider victors of the tournament. You players who in less than a few hours will be acclaimed champions by millinos of your compatriots. You who have no equals in the terrestrial hemisphere. You who are so superior to every...

Limit Your Exposure

Posted Yesterday at 02:54 PM by Vermont Red

The following item is about the third season of “Mad Men”. If you haven’t yet watched the entire season then you should avoid reading any further.

“Limit your exposure”. That is what Don Draper said to Salvatore Romano during the first episode of the just-completed third season of “Mad Men”. The quote is from a concept that Don had for a client but it was also advice for Salvatore who had been indiscreet about his homosexuality. As it turned out, Don would have done well taking his own advice and it would have been good advice for a number of the characters...

Cheaters Never Win, Except When They Do

Posted Yesterday at 02:37 PM by Vermont Red

When I was growing up, my father had a standard response every time I complained some something wasn’t fair. “Life isn’t fair”, he would tell me. His statement was not one of sympathy, simply a statement of his world view. Maybe my father’s view came from growing up poor in rural Vermont and understanding how many doors were closed to him in his life. Or maybe my father had that view simply because he’s a smart man and it is what is fundamentally true.

The desire for fairness is a strong one in most moral people. When something is unfair, like say a goal is allowed that should...

FIFA World Cup Draw (All Possibel Pot Scenarios and Draw Procedure)

Posted Yesterday at 12:55 AM by scmcbride21

http://internationalfootballtalk.blogspot.com/

Ok so FIFA will decide shortly how they will allocate teams to certain pots. Here are the most likely scenarios.

Option 1 would be the same format they used in 2006 except this time they wouldn't need a special pot because there will be 8 unseeded UEFA teams. Pot A would contain the seeded teams, Pot B the UEFA teams, Pot C the African and South American teams, but to avoid teams from the same confederation ending up in the same group South Africa would draw from South America and the two seeded South American teams...

Silverdome sold to soccer interests

It has certainly been a whirlwind of events happening here in Detroit over the last couple of weeks. They've all been centered around the city of Pontiac. It has been home to all things soccer in Detroit throughout the years, as I've written before in a previous blog a long time ago, and it appears that it will be for many years to come.

We know the story of the World Cup at the Pontiac Silverdome in 1994, and the Detroit Express of the NASL spending three years there from 1978-1980. There's also the Michigan Bucks, that pesky Premier Development League team that built their own...

I saw thee weep

Posted 19 Nov 2009 at 10:38 PM by hnmorning12 (writing)

I saw thee weep

I saw thee’weep

the big bright tear

Came over that eve of blue

And then me thought it did appear
A violet dropping dew

I saw thee’ smile

Air Jordan 4 the sapphire’s blaze

Beside thee’ceased to shine

It could not match the living rays

That filld’that glance of thine

As clouds from yonder sun receive

A deep and mellow dye

Which scarce the shade of coming eve

Jordan iv ,Can banish from...

Don't underestimate yourself.

Don't refuse to listen.

Don't bottle things up.

Don't spam.

Don't stick your head in the sand.

Don't beat your head against a brick wall.

Don't think the grass is greener

on the other side.

Heavyweights Poised to Claim Mexican Apertura Crown

Posted 19 Nov 2009 at 09:42 PM by John Jagou (Sunshine Pumping...Optional)

Humberto Suazo hopes to lead Monterrey past America

It is liguilla time in Mexico again.

First a quick word on who didn’t make it. Chivas is a mess. 3 coaches, and one general manager later, and they still missed out on the post season. Pumas found magma in the hole they dug for themselves to start the season. And finally, Ricardo La Volpe added another failed campaign to his losng list of misery in Mexican footie. Atlas had enough, and now he’s gone....

There's a world outside my window, and it's a world of dread and fear

Posted 19 Nov 2009 at 04:39 PM by Dan Loney (Dan Loney Blog)

Hm, I've kinda been tunnel-visiony about MLS Cup, what with The Most Important Team In The World going to play the Galaxy and everything. (See what I did there?) (No, seriously, Real Salt Lake has this scrappy underdog thing going that I find both irritating and frightening. I sat through the Sol gagging against Sky Blue, and if this god-damned game isn't looking like its identical twin brother, then, in the words of "Bored of the Rings," I don't know lunch from din-din.)

...so, yeah, like I said, let's see what's happening elsewhere.

*raises the shades of the...

Do Chelsea Really Need Another Striker?

Posted 19 Nov 2009 at 02:29 PM by PeteCorrie (6's and 7's)

In a word, no. And while Frank Arnesen's pursuit of the Athetico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero isn't the weirdest thing in the world of football this week, and everyone is talking about how Thierry Henry could have better handled a sticky situation in Paris last night, I turn my eyes to this. But since you brought it up I'll say what anyone with any amount of sense will say about "The Hand of Henry": namely, that even though Ireland were hard done by the handball they surely should have killed the game off sooner, through Liam Lawrence or Damien Duff, and that is where the discussion should end....
