Chester's players on strike, could other clubs follow?

Posted Today at 04:34 PM by David Bolt (The voice from the Mersey)

Whilst much is being made of the financial disaster that is Portsmouth at the moment, with them being on owner number four for the season, and he’s pretty much said he doesn’t want the club, having become owner by default due to an unpaid loan by the former owner, the Portsmouth fans are concerned about the future of their beloved club. However, things could be much worse. Ask a Chester City fan.

Chester is a city that has been around since at least Roman times, where it was called Deva (the club play at the Deva Stadium, the only ground to be in two countries as it spans the England-Wales...

The 23rd Man

Updated Today at 01:09 PM by John Jagou (removed an errant question mark. I'm Ron Burgundy?)

I know it’s a while before world cup rosters are finalized, but I do have a question that I have been chewin’ on for the past couple of weeks. What criteria do coaches use to fill that last spot on the roster?

The good thing about world cup rosters is that once a starting XI has been decided, the remaining 12 players are available for substitutions, not 7. If that is the case, then it would seem to me that a coach would want to have as many different types of players available to him based on how the game is played.

But that is not always the case. I have come...

Norwich City FC – A Bird of a Different Color

Posted Today at 12:08 PM by Anglofile

Looking into clubs as potential acquisition targets, Norwich City FC lands clearly in the center of our radar screen. The club spent a short run in the Premiership as the 2004/05 season and was subsequently relegated from the Championship to League One at the end of last season. Even with the setback of last year, the club appears to have bounced back where they now sit atop the league with a strong record of 18-7-3 and not having dropped a single match at Carrow Road this season. The following is a quick analysis of the Canaries and why I believe they warrant potential investment at this time....

MLS CBA Crunch Time II: Who's Zooming Who?

Posted Today at 10:09 AM by Bill Archer (Bill Archer Blog)
Updated Today at 12:11 PM by Bill Archer

Not to rain on anyones' MLS Preseason Parade, but unless I've been too buried in hate-drenched, spittle-flecked anger from north of the Ice Curtain to have heard the news, MLS is still operating sans a labor agreement.

(Of course it does appear that said curtain has moved several hundred miles south this week and now runs through Albemarle County North Carolina)

In any case, herewith - and I apologize for repeating a gimmick - my contribution to jump starting a sense of urgency:

Over the three month span between Real Salt Lakes' delightfully...

Are Arsenal really that bad? I don't think so!

Posted Today at 09:57 AM by David Bolt (The voice from the Mersey)

It’s easy to criticise Arsenal, especially after results like the one at Stamford Bridge last Sunday. Critics of the Gunners say while they play football prettier than Charlize Theron at dawn, they don’t have the cutting edge or toughness required to win the important games against their title rivals. That defeat means that in the last 8 games against Chelsea and Man United, Arsenal have drawn one and lost seven. Conceding 18 goals in those games with only 5 in reply.

Critics also say that Wenger is too cautious in the transfer market because of his unshakable belief in his young...
