I should have put the intro to this series here, since you'll be reading this by scrolling down. Or posted part 3 last, and part 1 first, except....crap. Stupid linear time.

If this is crowding decent posts off the home page, scroll down and read Bill and Tex's stuff - you'll be glad you did.

More than welcome to see any pictures that fill in the gaps here.

US uniform gallery - part 2 of 3 - the early Nike years

2002 World Cup home

Good memories. Let's never wear something like this again.

2002 World Cup away

See, the navy version was much more tolerable than the white version, to me. Collarless worked better, so did having only two colors.

US uniform gallery - part 1 of 3

Posted 20 Feb 2009 at 08:52 PM by Dan Loney (Dan Loney Blog)

Clemente's post got me to thinking. If we're going to talk US uniforms, then let's really look at what was worn in the past. It's pretty interesting.

Ask me why I'm posting these in reverse chronological order. Well, see, it was because generally more recent pictures were easier to find, so I got those first, and...ah, screw it.

2008-2009 qualifying home

Why does this shirt bore me more than any other the US has ever worn, with maybe one or two exceptions?...

Botanitas...

If the suits that run the Mexican primera run out of patience when their team loses two in row, why would anyone take a coaching job in Mexico? Luis Fernando “el flaco” Tena was tossed out with trash at Morelia yesterday. His crime? Losing two games in a row. He won two games in row prior to that. Morelia are only two points from the top of the group. But I guess it wasn’t enough. Tena is third coach in 6 weeks to walk the plank, and the 16th coach since last August to walk out with a security escort.

It looks like Paco Ramirez will not be sanctioned by FEMEXFUT...

Bell: Barcelona "Rethinking" MLS Bid

Posted 20 Feb 2009 at 05:01 PM by Bill Archer (Bill Archer Blog)

When the White House wants something to go basically unnoticed they dump it to the press late on Friday afternoon when nobody is paying attention, and by Monday it's no longer news.

Now I'm not positing a conspiracy theory here, but JACK BELL OF THE NEW YORK TIMES just posted what is perhaps the first crack in the Miami saga.

Now, I'd be the first to say that I like the bid a lot more without Barcelona than with them. In fact, forget the stadium, I'd become this bid's biggest booster....

Mancs and Madrid

Posted 20 Feb 2009 at 03:02 PM by thisizanfield

Hmmm... got a few tricky games coming up not least the Utd and Madrid game.

They will shape our season and we WILL have a better understanding of our title ambitions and our chances on the contenent.

The City game tomorrow is a tricky one as our home form has been indifferent this season even though we are yet to loose. My heart is going for a score draw but it is obvious truly we need to win and hope Utd drop a couple of points (HMMM!).

Wednesday is going to be something special.

Rafa going back to Madrid and Liverpool have the chance to...

Leiweke: "I'm Not About to be Screwed Over"

Posted 20 Feb 2009 at 09:28 AM by Bill Archer (Bill Archer Blog)
Updated 20 Feb 2009 at 12:38 PM by Huss

LA Galaxy and AEG Executive Tim Leiweke has apparently reached his limit in the back-and-forth with AC Milan over the increasingly Kafkaesque David Beckham affair.

Of course the parade of Prime Crapola that the Italians are spreading around is more or less typical of how these things get handled in the European "sporting press": one side tells some whopping lie and the other side is supposed to respond in kind.

Add that to the list of things which MLS does differently, and add Leiweke...

The Best 2010 FIFA World Cup Squads: Who’s #8?

Posted 20 Feb 2009 at 09:05 AM by davidwilson

Portugal is known as a perpetual underachiever on the world football stage.

They only made it to one of the first ten World Cups they attempted to qualify for, and that was only because they had Eusebio, who was arguably the greatest player ever. Lately they have been better, but they still cannot shake their reputation as chokers in big tourneys.

It’s a fair rep though because Portugal has not had a very successful run in big tournaments. They have qualified for the World Cup only four times and have won the European Championship only once...

UEFA Cup Round-Up

Posted 20 Feb 2009 at 08:58 AM by davidwilson

UEFA Cup holders Zenit St Petersburg shook off the rust to win the first leg of their last-32 showdown with Stuttgart 2-1.

Szabolcs Huszti gave Zenit the lead after just two minutes only for Mario Gomez to equalise, but Anatoliy Tymoshchuk - who has agreed to join to Bayern Munich next season - made it 2-1 two minutes into first-half stoppage time.

Valencia put their poor recent domestic form behind them to take a slight advantage in their tie against 10-man Dynamo Kiev with a 1-1 draw at the Lobanovsky Dynamo Stadium.

David Silva netted a...
