Woman Burned, Turf Damaged and Two Men Charged For Throwing Flares at TFC Match
Canadian News Sources are reporting that A FEMALE FAN WAS BURNED BY A FLARE THROWN AT BMO last night and two Toronto men have been arrested and will be charged with
' possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and mischief under $5,000'
The report, a Copyrighted story from "The Canadian Press" quotes police sources as saying that two flares were thrown from the stands, with one of them landing on a woman's leg, burning through her pants and causing a burn on her thigh.
The second landed on the BMO turf, doing an estimated $2,000 damage.
I know that, somehow, this is my fault, guys. I can't wait to hear the logic this time.
The Associated Press is moving a story this afternoon claiming that MLS will receive $10 MILLION in return for extending the loan of Posh Spice's husband.
MLS Commissioner Don Garber, in a meeting with AP Sports Editors, stated that "We asked for $10 million, we got our $10 million"
Garber didn't break down how much of that sum will come from the player himself and how much from AC Milan, claiming:
"We don't know where it's coming from, either. There's a lot of different ways it could happen...He can not get paid from Milan. Milan could pay us. He could pay them. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter."
And the money just keeps piling up at MLS HQ.
Jeffrey Marcus of The New York Times has posted a story - possibly from the same event - with SOME FASCINATING QUOTES FROM DONNY THE G regarding expansion issues.
The Commish, who was instrumental in reducing the roster by six players this year, complained that the US isn't developing enough players.
Well duh.
The league is in the very best of hands.
Meanwhile, in the Continuing Saga of Portland City Government, The Oregonian is reporting that saving Portland Memorial Stadium and building a new facility for soccer in some other location WOULD COST THE TAXPAYERS AN ADDITIONAL $10 to $15 MILLION
And since no one can say exactly what the place would be used for, if anything, I guess the citizenry is supposed to drive by and admire it from time to time.
And finally the indispensible STEVEN GOFF IS REPORTING that New England has completed a trade with DC United, sending Tom Soehn's side the rights to veteran T&T defender Avery John.
John has been with Miami FC, having been waived by the Revs but, because of the exceedingly odd MLS rules regarding this kind of thing, New England had to be compensated for a player they didn't even have.

LOL - it's always you fault Bill
On a serious note. The fans were quick to point out the idiots. Some of us even helped subdue them so they didn't get away.Posted 23 Apr 2009 at 04:14 PM by alphamale111

1. was at the very edge of the turf, off the playing surface. unless they are replacing the small patch with gold, no way it's $2000.
2. it looked like there was another one trying to be thrown, but we nabbed before being tossed (section 113...the first throw looked like it was from 111?).
3. they've become pretty relaxed with checking peoples stuff/pat downs. maybe the wait time to get in was too long. they don't check anything if you have a bmo bank card with you (and you get in right away...no lineup).
4. once caught, they should tie those criminals to the GO train tracks with the flare in their mouth. Let's see if the train stops or runs them over.Posted 23 Apr 2009 at 04:36 PM by Mississauga FC

Bill,
You keep screwing up your coverage of the Portland stadium situation.
Today's error came in your statement "The Oregonian is reporting that saving Portland Memorial Stadium and building a new facility for soccer in some other location"
Truth is that Portland is not looking for a new stadium for soccer. As the article states, the question is whether the new baseball park - that will ensure that the Timbers don't share a ground with Baseball - will replace the old coliseum or be built somewhere else.
As it stands, the Timbers know where they will be playing in 2011 - that has never been a question. And based on statements from the city council, the baseball stadium discussion will probably be decoupled from the MLS expansion process, which is good news.Posted 23 Apr 2009 at 05:24 PM by Fenerbace
