Davies Update & Plans for Fan Salute Tonight at RFK
Updated: I've just been told that Davies' email is charliedavies9@yahoo.com and that teammates are printing and delivering all emails.
Late update: Grahame Jones is reporting that the Davies family will be in attendance at RFK tonight.
ESPN Sportscenter leads the hour this morning with extensive coverage of the Charlie Davies story, including footage from the accident scene, an interview with Bob Bradley and comments from Alexi Lalas on Davies' value to the team.
Here's a report from AP:
As you probably know by now, Davies is listed in "serious but stable" condition after surgery to repair a lacerated bladder and fractures to the tibia and femur bones in his right leg (apparently requiring the insertion of titanium rods) along with facial fractures and a left elbow fracture.
(For those of you who skipped anatomy class, the femur is the thigh bone, the tibia is the bigger shin bone)
A statement released by U.S. Soccer said Davies "will be hospitalized for at least a week and additional surgeries will be required to stabilize his left elbow fracture and possibly the facial fractures."
"Injuries of this nature usually require a recovery period of six to 12 months and extensive rehabilitation," said U.S. Soccer physician Dr. Dan Kalbac, who worked with the treating doctors. "Due to Charlie's fitness level, his prognosis for recovery and his ability to resume high-level competition is substantially improved."
A grassroots fan initiative has sprung up overnight with a plan to stand and cheer for Davies during the entire 9th minute of tonight's match at RFK.

Six months minimum for a broken femur. I don't see him playing in South Africa next summer. I hope he can rehab and continue his career as a professional soccer player.
Thanks Bill for staying on top of this.Posted 14 Oct 2009 at 07:41 AM by gibroni

1. Everybody print out this number 9 graphic.
2. Black ink, white paper.
3. In the 9th minute, hold it up high above your head.
It would be nice for the cameras to pan through the crowd and see a couple thousand of these during the game. I'm sure Charlie will be watching.

I plan on trying to print a hundred or so and bringing them to the game to pass out. If you are able to do the same, I would recommend it.
Pass the file along to everyone you know coming to the game.Posted 14 Oct 2009 at 09:07 AM by ewheatley

I'm wearing a No. 9 jersey. I encourage everyone to do the same. Borrow a Hamm jersey if you need to.

Hey,
Longtime reader, but wanted to chime in. Back when I was 23 and a healthy soccer player, I ended up in a freak accident and snapped my femur. They also put in a titanium rod (still have it) and theoretically I should have been running around 6 months later. Due to setbacks and knee issues including a subsequent surgery, it took me close to a year.
I hope Charlie recovers quickly, both physically and mentally.Posted 14 Oct 2009 at 09:45 AM by nycmagyar

"Awesome, Ralph!"
To be clear I have no connection with that banner; it's the work of someone on Twitter who does banners for the Revs supporters group:
