You're a Better Fan Than I Am, Gunga Din

I didn't watch the US Men on Saturday.
I know that makes me less of a fan, less of an American and less of a man than you. Fine. I'm good with that.
Here in the far reaches of the wilderness known as rural Pennsylvania, the nearest viewing location I could find was almost 3 hours away, and I simply didn't feel like chasing the pirate feeds as they got shut down one by one as more and more people chased fewer and fewer feeds consisting of grainy, virtually unviewable herky-jerky video with narration I can't understand and a sound quality that would have made Marconi slit his wrists in despair.
So if you're as candyassed a fan as I am - even if you're pretending otherwise today - here's what it looked like:
And as an added bonus, here are the postgame interviews Hannah Storm won't be introducing on ESPN this morning:
For those of you who can't get enough of Diego Maradona (and who who amongst us can claim otherwise?), waiting until the end of this Argentina - Peru highlight video so you can see the man's reaction to the game winning goal would be well worth the time even if you didn't get to watch some really lovely football as the lead in:

Great goal by Landon but man does he speak like a robot. I almost expect him to make a "beep" sound at the end of every sentence.
Nice to hear what some of these other guys sound like. But, to your point, if a tree falls in the forrest...
Didn't see the game either so my reaction to the second goal -obviously out of context- is that if they are going to defend like that, they should have to buy tickets.Posted 12 Oct 2009 at 11:39 AM by GFame7

Am I really the only person who thinks Palermo was offside? Of course, there is absolutely no way that the ref who makes that call leaves the stadium in anything other than a hearse. See 5:57: He's definitely off.
Also, if the Peruvian shot from the center circle at the ensuing kickoff goes two inches lower, would it be considered the best goal ever in the history or future of earth? I think so.Posted 12 Oct 2009 at 11:47 AM by Q*bert Jones III

Not offside. Even if it was, it was so close that the benefit is supposed to go to the attacker.
Also, that wouldn't even be the best midfield goal ever, so no. It wouldn't be the best goal ever. But the most hilarious, in relation to Argentina? I could buy that.Posted 12 Oct 2009 at 12:26 PM by cnelson4947

Not offside? Watch where the GK and defenders were when the ball was played and look at the AR's positioning. The AR was out of position so he could not make the right call. The guy was offside by a good 2 yards or more. Clearer than that they do not come.Posted 12 Oct 2009 at 12:37 PM by LoewenBoy

That might be the only way to surpass Chris Albright's midfield goal against Tony Meola.Quote:Posted 12 Oct 2009 at 12:38 PM by Beau Dure

He was clearly offside... and the benefit did go to the attacker in that he was allowed to score in an offside position.
Or did you mean benefit of the doubt? Because there shouldn't have been much doubt, there was only one defender between him and goal, even the goalkeeper was further upfield... and the ref was standing DIRECTLY in line with the play.
I have no idea how he missed that.Posted 12 Oct 2009 at 12:54 PM by SankaCofie
