Let There be Great Rejoicing Throughout the Land

Various sources (not to be confused with Various Styles) are reporting this morning that on August 12, the day of the United States - Mexico game, Telemundo affiliate mun2 (mun dos) will be offering a "Free Preview" of their channel.
According to NBC Universal, mun2 has already received commitments from programming distributors that almost double their current 31 million household subscriber base.
DirecTV and Dish Network will both provide mun2 to their entire subscriber base that day free of charge.
Time Warner distributors will apparently make the decision on a case-by-case basis, so you might consider calling your local office and acting like a raving lunatic.
Furthermore, while mun2 is a Spanish language channel, for this game an English language "overlay" will be available through the SAP option on your TV. You now have one week to figure out how that works.
The only sour note in all of this is that Marcelo Balboa will be allowed to do "color" next to Phil Shoen, so perhaps just leaving it in Spanish wold be easier to watch. Your call.

The SAP will be on Telemundo, as I understand it.
Which makes me wonder why people are all bent out of shape about mun2.Posted 05 Aug 2009 at 09:11 AM by Beau Dure

Hudson would make the match beyond epic, but doesn't he have something against Donovan, or is that just Lalas.Posted 05 Aug 2009 at 09:37 AM by njndirish

F'n time warner... I just emailed my affiliate (albany, ny)... If they are true to form, they won't air it... people will call up bitching day of and they will open the channel up maybe by halftime... They do this all the time with Syracuse basketball and football games... The market has some weird blackout yet TW Albany has the rights to broadcast it on one of their local TW channels - but don't... until people call up bitching while the game is on... and it magically appears on one of their local channels by halftime... It's simply programming incompetence at the local level usually... They don't know what's going on or what their customers want... I hope this doesn't happen here... I think I may go to the local german biergarten with Direct TV to watch this one to be safe...Posted 05 Aug 2009 at 09:53 AM by JohhnyCaps

Yeah, but this silver lining surrounds a very dark cloud, namely the horrific announcing of one Marcelo Balboa.Posted 05 Aug 2009 at 10:06 AM by Raider Red

Balboa, man...I just had flashbacks to the Olympics.
When will networks learn that a great soccer career is not necessarily prep for a great - or even adequate - broadcasting career?Posted 05 Aug 2009 at 10:09 AM by cpwilson80
