A year ago in October i posted my second ever blog entry titled "Montreal... Can they take on CONCACAF?" It was a blog entry about how the Montreal Impact has won the Nutralite Canadian Championship beating out Toronto FC (i was there ) to win the tournament. It was also asking if Montreal could actually compete with the club teams of CONCACAF. Since then a lot has happened. The Montreal Impact have made Canadian Soccer legends as they beat several teams from all over CONCACAF region and made it to the next round in which they faced Santos Laguna. This proved to be a tragedy. Winning against Laguna in the first game 2-0 at home in Montreal in the big O and came within one goal against Santos in the final in a 5-2 loss. But it was a good show from Montreal and it has given a future to Canadian clubs who are going into the CONCACAF Champions League. But this year another team is making headlines and are hoping to push forward and get close, if not go farther than the Impact.

It was the most epic comeback probably ever in Canadian Soccer. Montreal Impact had nothing left in the Nutralite Canadian Championship. They had put in a secondary roster. And Toronto FC had all its best players from the MLS. Meanwhile the Vancouver Whitecaps watched on guessing that they would be the Champions as they had a 4 goal difference over Toronto. And when Montreal scored first off a penalty you could almost see the "Whitecaps are the Nutralite Canadian Champions" go up on the screen as they now needed 5 goals. Enter Dwayne De Rosario. A cross, An odd bounce and a breakaway. A bicycle kick, a deflection and a bounce off the goalie. All the same results as Toronto took a 3-1, still needing two goals to get to that five. Then Guevara comes into the mix. A curving free kick later and its 4-1. At this point you can almost feel what is happening. Then Guevara gets a corner and swings the ball into the box. The bench and the Toronto section goes crazy as Chad Barret deflects the ball into the net and the score is 5-1, Toronto have every goal they need to win the tournament. It helped too that Amado Guevara was able to add a second from a great flick pass from Chad Barret. By the end of the match the score was 6-1, sweet revenge from the tie in last years cup. Now a new epic is coming out and Toronto FC are the next to represent Canada at the Nutralite Canadian Championship and its starts tonight as they take on the Puerto Rico Islanders, a side that has done very well in the CONCACAF Champions League. Should Toronto FC win this match we could be talking about a new story, and maybe another win for Canadian Club Soccer.
