Will the Premier League call for Landon Donovan?

"I am Mandon. Hear me roar!"
Landycakes is dead and buried. In his place stands Mandon, hands on hips, hairy balls thrust forward, mainly in Beckham's Limey, cheapskate face. Gosh.
Donovan's transformation from cowering man bag into the Clint Eastwood of US soccer reminds me of the time when that ***** Prince Adam changed into He-Man; he looks the same, but he's not the same.
Mandon now says things like "What is respect? respect doesn't mean anything." Then his eyes narrow. Fierce – Landycakes would never have said that.
After Donovan's mannish performance at the Confederations Cup, at least one Premier League club will try to lure him to England this summer. Surely? … No? … Come on, it's a win-win situation. You grow your brand in the States, and you also get a player who now has some cojones.
(Btw, I don't buy the bullshit about how Donovan ran away from Europe. Players go where they are wanted. It didn't work out in Germany for Mandon, but he was young. Maybe he hated schnitzel and lederhosen too.)
In Roy Hodgson's shoes, I'd be thinking seriously about phoning Donovan's agent. Why not? Deuce and Mandon together again. Could work.
Indeed, though I don't see a big-four club coming in for Donovan, he might reasonably end up at any other Prem team. I'd love to see Donovan playing in England, especially now that he's grown up. Hell, if Gooch can make it at Milan, Mandon can make it in London.
What do you think? Would Landon do well in the Prem?

For real. Why do photo password dialouge boxes keep popping up?
Landy to Fulham? Nah. Why not Man City. They are in for everyone registered with an FA.Posted 09 Jul 2009 at 12:52 PM by dredgfan

England would be nice but I always thought that Donovan's skill set would be best-suited in Spain.Posted 09 Jul 2009 at 12:53 PM by MLS Wandering Fan

I'd have him at Sunderland in a second. Sure, the physical nature of play in England might be an issue, but I think he can handle it now.
But, three points ...
1. He has said he'll stay with LA for the rest of this season. I believe that. I wouldn't be at all surprised by a move in January, but I don't see it happening now.
2. He'd be most effective for a team somewhat further down the table that has to soak up pressure. That enables him to be a threat in counters, which is where he's at his best.
3. I still wonder whether MLS will let him go for a reasonable fee.Posted 09 Jul 2009 at 12:54 PM by SAFC Yank

And speaking of playing overseas, Charlie Davies just got signed by Sochaux.
Ollie, I do agree with you about LD and Europe. This last time around, I think he got caught in the middle of the BS between Jurgen and the Chairman of Bayern.
Plus, as Wandering Fan says, I too believe that LD's skills are a great fit for La Liga.Posted 09 Jul 2009 at 01:03 PM by jorgeinla4

After he trashed their beloved Becks, I'm not sure he would be allowed in the country.
I think he would do quite well in any of the big leagues, though maybe not at the biggest clubs.
Selfishly, as a USMNT fan, I would like him to go in January so he has a bit of time off after the MLS season then is fully match fit by the time the WC comes around.Posted 09 Jul 2009 at 01:35 PM by Curva Nord

Prince Adam does look an awful lot like He-Man. And it's weird how they both have green tigers.Posted 09 Jul 2009 at 01:48 PM by Honore de Ballsac

Landon would do fine in England, just not for the big four. He's a really good player (the best field player the US has ever produced), just not a great player.
Blackburn/Wigan/Bolton/Sunderland,/that type of club would be happy to get him. Now, I don't think a club like that would want to pay the fee MLS would want for him. When his contract's up, Landon will have plenty of suitors.Posted 09 Jul 2009 at 01:57 PM by Clint Eastwood
