Landin's Scorpion Goal

Posted 13 Apr 2009 at 07:28 PM by John Jagou

When I see a goal like this, I often wonder if it was luck, skill, both, or neither that caused the ball to go into the back of the net.

For an imprecise sport such as footie, goals like this, lucky or not, should be celebrated. Not even Landin could believe it worked.

That gives Mr. Landin 7 goals for the short season, making him the top-scoring national in the league.

Unfortunately for Cruz Azul, Cesar Villaluz tied the game with one of the ugliest own goals you'll ever see. La Máquina is mired in mediocrity, but luckily for them they are in the highly mediocre group 2. A few results fall their way, and they can put on their special liguilla shoes.

i think its luck, he just put his foot out at the right time and hoped for the best, it happens to everyone(not the goal he scored)

this shot is part of the weil coerver training drills and practiced routinely, at least in the netherlands. he probably meant to do it

Landin can't believe, you can see in his reaction. He got in a good position and never quit on the play, like so many others do by diving looking for a penalty. Cruz Azul will need a miracle like that to make the playoffs.

no doubt he meant to do it... that's the type of goal we all fantasize about scoring... it just never works. I've tried to do that in practice...usually to miserable failure.

It's better to be lucky than good...

Of course it was luck, but you can tell from the way he played the ball that it turned out exactly how he was hoping it would. That's what makes these goles de fantasia. A lot like the one Maxi scored on Mexico in Germany: he was trying to do exactly what he did, but luck certainly played a role in that goal.

    +1

Yes there's luck, but he gets full credit for that one.

    Word Crimen.

Like Kenny Cooper's goal in week 1, anybody attempting the outrageous shot gets credit from me. To connect on it is always somewhat lucky, but it doesn't make the goal any less beautiful.
