You know the Germans always make good stuff

By way of the one and only Kenn:
The Women's Professional Soccer unveiled their uniforms today, courtesy of a German cookie cutter. They also conform to the dictum that at least 75% of all American pro soccer teams wear some sort of shade of blue.
I will guarantee you that this:
is gonna stand the test of time better than this:
You can see them all individually here, but they are pretty much seen one, seen 'em all.
The exception is the Red Stars' jersey, which proves that the Chicago Fire really need to re-release their own Chicago flag alternate jersey. Kenn has a great shot of Lindsey Tarpley in the home jersey, which I shouldn't really leech off of. More proof that the Red Stars are run by a through and through soccer guy. Thererfore, the FC Gold Pride one will probably sell better.
They're not bad shirts at all on their own, but even a seven team league could use more than two templates. I would consider buying a Sol shirt, but I am nowhere near secure enough in my masculinity to sport a women's soccer jersey. Otherwise I'd be wearing the gold US shirt as we speak. And so would you.

I still have a Northern Virginia Majestics shirt.
Doesn't fit any more, though. Not me, at least. Might fit my wife.Posted 24 Feb 2009 at 09:21 PM by Beau Dure

Interestingly, the old Mutiny jersey looks pretty similar to the new Seattle jerseys.Posted 24 Feb 2009 at 10:18 PM by Beakmon FC

Why does Chicago wear a bunch of Star of Davids across their chest? Good thing they didn't go with yellow.Posted 24 Feb 2009 at 10:47 PM by NeilB

I don't know how I'm feeling about the skirt/shorts that half of the kits are including... and no, I'm not talking about the old MLS shirts.Posted 24 Feb 2009 at 10:48 PM by El Steve

Dan ... I think I'm on a hot streak, as far as getting the references in your titles. this one took me a while to get though.
BTW, am I the only one who thinks that guy looks like a Taxi-era Jeff Conaway? I would say "minus the crack binges", but if you watch that guy sell useless shit on ESPN, I'm not sure he's not ... 'using a little extra flour' in his recipes, if you know what I mean.
BTW, I know this is a tired topic. But have we ever been able to get a figure on EXACTLY how many executives had to sign off on those original KC Wiz shirts? I figure, those atrocities had to get ok'd from at least 10 people, in some capacity or another. I still can't believe they ever saw the light of day. Either that or Ruud Gullit was right, and the jerseys were a lynchpin of the U.S. goverment's coordinated consipiracy to keep soccer unpopular in America.Posted 24 Feb 2009 at 11:03 PM by Asprilla9

If you use the "nuts" catchphrase from Vince's SlapChop commercial in a title, the rest of us should just quit blogging.

I agree that the Chicago Red Stars home shirts are the best.
I also like how the Sol kept the new Beckham era Galaxy colors, only in reverse, which I kind of which the Galaxy would do.
Sky Blue FC's shirts are nice, but they would be nicer if the Dynamo hadn't chosen basically the exact same color scheme, but I guess that's why they say imitation is the sincerest form of flatery.
I would have thought that FC Gold Pride would have played in either the '96 Kansas City Wizards home shirts, or, I dunno, GOLD!?!?.
I like that the Washington Freedom kept with D.C. United's concept of dark home colors, but how do they not put Washington's flag on their chest, just like Chicago did? Come to think of it, if D.C. United are supposed to be the Black-and-Red, why didn't they do two red stripes across their chest with three red stars above them like the flag of Washington, D.C. and George Washington's coat of arms? They've never really had red as part of their shirts, have they? If anything the MetroStars had that motif much more than United. I get that the three stripes were sort of a "sponsorship without a sponsorship," but even then why not red?
St. Louis and Boston have pretty bland uniforms, and it seems as though they got the green wrong for St. Louis, but whatever.Posted 24 Feb 2009 at 11:30 PM by grant.alpaugh
