Hey soccer enthusiasts, WPS officially announced a very unique playoff format today... and we'd love to hear your thoughts!

Jack Bell at the New York Times explains:
New Women’s League Has New Approach to Playoffs

Before it has even played its inaugural game, Women’s Professional Soccer has made a unique statement.

The seven-team league, which will begin play in late March, introduced a novel postseason format on Thursday that includes the top four teams from the regular season … but with a twist.

Instead of the tried-and-true all-American first-round format of No. 1 vs. No. 4 and No. 2 vs. No. 3, the league will use what is a well-designed and well-thought-out system that will eliminate the possibility of a team that excels during the regular season from being ousted early in the postseason. The format will also ensure that the No. 1 team over all plays host to the title game and has enough time promote the match.

In the first round, the No. 4 team in the regular season will face the No. 3 team at No. 3’s stadium on Aug. 15. The second-place team in the regular season will receive a bye into what the league is calling a Super Semifinal and host the winner of the first-round game on Aug. 18 or 19. The winner of the Super Semifinal will then travel to the top-seeded team for the W.P.S. final on Aug. 22.
Check out rest of Jack's column here (including his opinion). And let us at WPS know what you think - Good, bad or indifferent -- We want to know!

There's also chatter about the WPS Playoff format going on in this forum.

This is a great idea - the WUSA didn't do nearly enough to honor their regular season champions, and this is a huge improvement.
