As the WPS Web Coordinator, part of my job is to keep on top of the WPS chatter out there on the Internet ...from BigSoccer ...to the Blogosphere ...to Twitter.

This is all unofficial news, nothing out of the league office!!! Basically just a bunch of blogs that other people posted (I need to make this very clear it's not official stuff from WPS!) but just a splattering of posts and URLS I found this week that you may not have unearthed yet... definitely worth a few clicks here and there.

These blogs are in no particular order by the way.

Marquee Signings Rolling into WPS posted by Tom at wps.theoffside.com

Frankly, we’d like to keep this place filled with scurrilous rumours, mischief and nonsense, but sometimes we hear actual news that’s too good not to pass on. We’re hearing that three top international players are getting their i’s dotted and their t’s crossed this week by WPS, and will be officially unveiled shortly.

Homare Sawa to Washington Freedom posted at andnothingless.com

Washington Freedom fans definitely have something to smile about, as one of the best players out of that corner of the world had a great 2008, leaving people wondering how she could be left off the voting list for World Player of the Year. The news came out of Japan on Friday by her former club, NTV Beleza.

Joanna Frisk and Marta Signing Controversy posted at Women's Soccer Show

I have read a lot of articles and blogs (coming out of Sweden) that have criticized the signing of Johanna Frisk. Many Swedish papers and blogs are saying that the signing of Johanna Frisk hurts women soccer. Their are many stories in Sweden that imply that Johanna is more than a “friend” of Marta and that the two have some type of relationship.

A-Rod (no not that one) chosen first in WPS Draft posted by Brad Barrett at American Soccer News

University of Southern California and U.S. Women’s National team star Amy Rodriguez was the first player selected in the collegiate player draft. Picked up by Tony DiCicco and the Boston Breakers, Rodriguez is sure to give them added talent on the field alongside Angela Hucles, Kristine Lilly and Heather Mitts to name a few.

Give & Go: US Goalkeeper Hope Solo posted by at Goal.com (Thanks to Jordan Cornblog for finding this first)

Going in, I don’t know what to expect. I have a Brazilian coach. He doesn’t speak English. I have a Brazilian goalkeeper coach, and he too doesn’t speak English. I’ve heard his style is completely different than anything I’ve ever seen. As much as it’s going to be interesting - I’m happy to have something new, because I think change is good. Check out the hair color.

Marta, Again. posted by Jennifer Doyle at From a Left Wing.

As deserving as these three women are - are there really no other players that the coaches and players casting their votes can think of?

America's Team posted by Peter Wilt at Peter's Soccer Blog.

WPS announced each team's home openers this week and if I'm reading it right, your Chicago Red Stars could be featured on national television via Fox Soccer Channel for each of its first three games.

No Surprise, Amy Rodriguez was the #1 Pick posted at Ole Ole WPS.

Head coach Tony DiCicco arrived at the 2009 WPS Draft with one certainty in mind: he HADHAD TO? Yes, had to. to use his first pick to select Amy Rodriguez.

Northern latitudes helped make Marta a player of Sol importance posted by John Turnbull at The Global Game.

Marta biographer Diego Graciano writes: The summers are replete with light. But in winters, the rigors are stark, nothing but snow and night. Marta would not forget her tears on touching the snowy ground. “When I was descending on the airplane I was frightened by the amount of ice, and I asked Marina: ‘Can it be that they play football in this country?’ ”

Best 11 ...Not Drafted posted by Michael Minnich at Michael Minnich's blog.

Now that the Draft is behind us and the individual team tryouts are still ahead of us, time to take a look at the best of the players who attended the pair of League combines and weren't selected.

Enjoy!
