Not all Mexicans will root for Chivas!

Hold on a second.

What is Chivas fan base in Mexico? Do you think that ALL MEXICANS in the US are Chivas fans? I dont think so. Do you think that every Mexican will root for Chivas, I DONT THINK SO. Why? Well simple.

If a diehard Mexican fan of a different Mexican team lives in the US , I HIGHLY doubt they they will suddenly start ROOTING for their hated Chivas!

For example. If the Yankees get a franchise in Japan, the Tokyo Yankees, do you think an American from Boston that lives in Tokyo is going to start wearing a Yankee cap? NO!

If Manchester United gets an MLS franchise, MU USA, do you think Brits that root for Liverpool are going to automatically be a MU USA Fan....NO!

So assuming that 100% of Mexicans in the US will root for Chivas is dead wrong!

Many will root AGAINST them, i.e., some will become active consumers of a league desperate for more fans.

Another thing that has been pointed out is that not all of Mexico is futbol country. The Pacific Coast is baseball country. A healthy % of US Mexicans come from those states. Now, guess which club is the favorite amongst these ppl? Chivas.

Whilst I agree to a certain degree, one factor that I know will come into play is a renewed "curiosity factor. In '96, there were some hard-core MFL fans that gave the league one shot, saw that it was well-below MFL and ahve not been back. W/ more MLSers going abroad and impacting EPL/Bundesliga, etc., Chivas USA will get enough press in the Latino press that it will garner some of those same fans from '96, many of which by now will recognize the improved play. Not all, but some.

So is Chivas USA only going to shoot for Mexican American support or all ethnicities?
I'm a bit skeptical of the whole situation. I hope that wherever the franchise ends up that it will have an American look and cater to the American people and players.

Not when they see their family members, next door neighbors ect playing in the team. Chivas USA will offer many Mexie Americans a chance to play in the MLS. None of this college recruitement crap well to us it is. If Chivas USA continues to have their open try outs, Chivas in Mexico is still doing this then they many non Chivas and even Central and South Americans will become fans of the team..

As a galaxy fan I would love it if Chivas was placed in San Diego. Swarms of LA fans would be heading south on the 5 for those games. Personally I would love taking the Amtrak from Dowtown LA to SD. And I know scores of my fellow G fans would be on the train with me.

Let's hope the SUV moms get scared away. They bring nothing to the table.

One more thing there are A LOT of Chivas fans in Los Angeles. Mexicans are the majority here in L.A. and most mexicans are CHIVAS fans! I will go as far to say that if Chivas USA comes to L.A. Chivas USA will be way bigger than the Galaxy, and any other MLS team. What matters most is money and Chivas USA will indeed make LOTS of it. I am pretty sure they will play in Carson. CHIVAS CHIVAS CHIVAS!!!!! BAA BAA BAAAA!!!!!

No, they're not. In the LA Basin, they're about 31%, w/ all Latinos coming in at around 41%. W/in the "city" of LA, they are prolly a bigger %, but hell, Carson isn't even in the city.

I have a lot of friends that are die hard chivas fans but the Chivas from Gudalajara and I have asked them many times if they would support Chivas USA and they said no. They don't like the MLS becasue its not the same as the MFL and bringing Chivas USA is not going to change MLS. I think some people will support Chivas USA but i really doubt huge amounts of people will be in support for this fake Chivas team.
