The Whitecaps residency squad has been competing in the prestigious Dallas Cup for the last week and doing exceptionally well. As Duane noted (http://www.24thminute.com/2009/04/caps-roll-on.html) a while back, this speaks for the level of talent their program is producing. In the tournament's top "U-19 Super Group" competition, the Whitecaps went 3-0 in the group stage (http://www.dallascup.com/schedules/XXX/12194304.html), knocking off Mexico's CF Monterrey 4-1, then taking down famed Argentine side River Plate 2-1 and beating the Dallas-based Andromeda Academy 1-0 to advance to the semifinals. Their remarkable success continued today with a 2-0 victory (http://communities.canada.com/theprovince/blogs/backofthenet/archive/2009/04/10/orgill-nets-pair-residency-caps-into-dallas-cup-final.aspx) over a team from the German Bundesliga's Eintracht Frankfurt [Marc Weber, Vancouver Province].

Just a view of things to come from the Whitecaps in the future. I just hope that the MLS don't try to gut this excellent program. Definitely the best academy system out of all the current MLS and USL teams.

They will definitely be allowed to keep it. MLS rules won't allow it to work right now, but there is plenty of time to change that, particularly with the CBA coming up at the end of the season.

Whitecaps lose to Sao Paolo 4-0 in the Dallas Cup final. Not quite the fairytale ending most were hoping for, but these kids still showed they can compete at this level. Should also be noted that their top player - Randy Edwini-Bonsu was injured early in the first game against Monterrey.

I was at the Semifinal win over Eintracht on Friday and the Whitecaps have a VERY good young forward in Dever Orgill. Big, strong kid who won EVERY header, held the ball up very well and made intelligent runs.
