Next round of expansion fee might actually be $40mil.
Vancouver and Portland paid $35mil each ($5mil discounts from original $40mil price tag)
Saputo try to cut a deal to buy DCU at around $30mil.
Relocate to Montreal.
DCU's current owners might be happy to unload it at $30mil.
They bought it at $33mil, and currently experiencing all kinds of problem and money losing.

I'm not really sure that MLS is still is priority right now ! Saputo applied on the bid for acquiring the hockey club Montreal Canadiens . Wich is around 300 millions canadians dollars. I think that the owner Georges Gilette needs the cash for paying Liverpool fc !

I don't want the bad blood associated with such a move.
Saputo may be "focused on the Habs" (for now), but the Impact remains his baby.

i think having DC United move to montreal would send a terrible message about the state of the mls-- the mls will try whatever leverage they can to keep DC united in the area-- and saputo does not strike me as an owner who would want a rejected franchise and all the baggage that goes with it-- IMO montreal and the mls will kiss and make up by 2010, do some courting and then-- BANG!!! -- a marriage made in the soccer heavens-- mls in montreal by 2012-- and DC will have a stadium by 2012 IMO, maybe with new owners

We will not buy DCU.
Mainly because they won't be sold.

A reverse-Expos scenario would not be something I'd savour - I don't care one bit for the idea of sacrificing my favourite American MLS team so that Montréal could get in to the league, when what I'd rather see is the Impact earn their way in the way the Whitecaps have.

DCU is far from a rejected franchise. Most clubs would wish to have even 1/2 the support and popularity that DCU has. Where we are getting no love is from the gov't. They got strong-armed by MLB over the Expos-turn-Nationals and the stadium deal there, so now they are gun-shy about any new stadium plans. Which sucks because DCU has been very active in the DC community. Sadly, with the economic down turn, it just created a big barrier for DCU.
I don't buy into the idea of DCU leaving DC, or going to Ashburn, VA. That is all just crap and the dumbest talk there is. IF, and this is a HUGE if, DCU was to relocate, it will be to St. Louis. That is the only senerio that would be fesible. It gets St. Louis into the league with an established organization.
Saputo is not going to purchase a different club when he has the Impact that is major league level club already. That would be the dumbest thing he could do. That would be like giving away a Porsche for another Porsche because the new Porsche has an AUX input on it's stereo system.

Never going to happen - you cannot deal with CU's current owners. You would have to buy from the league. The league is not allowing this.
If this was possible, St. Louis would have bought KC for 20-25 mil 3 yrs ago.

L'Impact is his baby that he's spent 15 years building from the ground up. I doubt that he would just dump them for a foreign team and slap the Impact logo and kits on them and call it a day. I just can't see him wanting to do that.
Plus this would bring up the entire domestic player allocation since he would suddenly have a team full of Americans and have to dump roster spots to get the right mix and ruin the chemistry of the locker room. Too much of a hassle.

saputo does not need a relocated team-- he has his own set up, ready to go with a few key additions to his roster-- he's not the type of guy to want 'hand-me-downs' and all the problems that brings
just won't happen
dcu will stay and now has a different owner, so things are looking brighter for the club-- good club with a good history
